Nuestra Senora del Pilar by Occre - Build log

I haven't even tried out the limits as yet. The X travel is a little over 5 inches. I think it'll work ok for my uses. You could mount a new linear slide to increase the distance. I haven't looked ito what is available ( although I already have slide longer than the stock one). I'lllook into it all if the need arises....View attachment 349529
sorry my 43 mm was incorrect. It is as you quoted.

Menacing to say the least. I agree 100%, Phil - the cannons look excellent!

I am slightly unsure of the thickness of brass rod. It seems to me little out of proportion. Also if you already doing soldering why not make a wire around deadeye correct way instead of the twised one. I think El Capi will have better comentary about that. As I'm no expert I can only point to other people's logs.

By the way, the deadeyes are plastic. I don't think they would fair well with heat.
Oh boy. Up to that point, I really liked this kit. Does Occre do the same with their other kits and how many other kit manufacturers adopt the same approach?

Its my first experience with OcCre. This kit, I believe is kind of dumbed down a bit. Retrospectively, there are a bunch of changes I could have made with some research. Plastic deadeyes instead of wood, the lack of hinges on the cannon port doors to mention a couple. So, I am learning as I go.
Phil, you are doing a fine job - my comments are solely directed at the kit. Maybe, I am just old school and have to get my head around the ever-increasing use of plastic in wooden ship models - just look at the spate of high-end Chinese, POF kits that come with plastic bow and stern assemblies, So, I suppose I have to accept plastic deadeyes, wooden gun barrels and the like.

Well, I have the Occre Montanes and according to the instructions the deadeyes are made of a composite material, so not pure wood. Now that I know this, I think I am going to buy some aftermarket parts for my build, when I get to it.
The Corel Mirage that I built was all wood.

Occre started making the deadeyes and blocks out of plastic a couple of years ago. But if you contact them through their customer service and request the wooden ones and they will send them to you for free.
