Plastic Sheet for simulating caulking

Hello!

Quick question... I have a very thin, flexible plastic sheet that look very nice to simulate the caulking between hull framing and planking and deck planks.

I have normally used a very dark lead pencil, but I am intrigued, and was wondering if any of you have done so.

If so, would regular wood glue work? And if so, how do you cut off the excess? It came with a 1:72 Granado cross section kit I just purchased, and would like to hear your thoughts.

i know the Titebond wood glue does not stick to plastic but your gluing the bottoms of the planks to the deck so not gluing them one to the other may not matter. Well unless the wood dries and shrinks and the plastic comes out.
cutting down the plastic after placing it between the planks migh be a problem, you may be better to cut the strips to the proper width before hand.

IMHO i think using dark lead pencil or China marker (see my Sultana build) is the best way to go

This is self adhesive on one side - a new possibility to imitate caulking - I did not build this model, so I have no experience until now, but it could work.

When we take a look at the kit review of the Granado section Dirk made (your kit) there is not shown such material, so the material you mentioned is an add on to the kit in the meantime

In general I have my doubts, that wood glue will fix real "plastic stripes" - when there is enough material with the kit you should make some samples with spare "planking" and you should check afterwards if the surface can be sanded or scratched without damaging the caulking .......

We’ve had several discussions in the Le Rochefort group build on simulating caulking. I and others have been using appropriate colored tissue paper between planks and framing members. Seems to work well with normal pva glue.

In the past I used often origami paper - very thin but more stabile like tissue paper
Paper is made our of wood - so wood glue is working

See La Jacinthe by Kortes, also his other builds. I used the same technique, the excess can be trimmed with a square chisel blade. It's too wide in my opinion for anything smaller than 1:48.
