Modelship Dockyard - New Kit POB 1:72 HMS Pandora 1779 by Modelship Dockyard

Pandora was a 24-gun Porcupine-class(link to wiki) sixth-rate frigate of the Royal navy, built in Deptford, 1779.

A brief introduction of Porcupine-class:

PORCUPINE Class. (24 guns) John Williams design of 1776, to which ten ships were ordered over two years, enlarged from the lines of the Sphinx Class. The contract for the first ship was agreed on 25.6.1776 with Greaves (to launch in 7.1777) and the second on 6.8.1776 with Adams (to launch in 5.1777), each at £10.10.0d per ton; they were named Porcupine and Pelican by AO 27.8.1776. Four ships of this class were lost 1780-84 (Penelope, Siren, Pelican and Crocodile), while the Pandora was lost in 1791 returning from the hunt for the Bounty mutineers.

Pandora is coming into the limelight because of the stories associated with the mutiny of the Bounty and the discovery of the ship's wreck in recent years. In November 1977, the wreck of the Pandora was located-186 years after its loss. A survey to confirm the identity of the wreck and assess its archaeological potential was commissioned in April 1979 by the Commonwealth Department of Home Affairs and Environment. The archaeologist who conducted the survey was Graeme Henderson, accompanied by photographer Patrick Baker, both from the Western Australian Maritime Museum (WAMM).

(Link)Here are some information from the “tropical museum of queensland” detailing the history of the ship, the story of the mutiny of Bounty and the progress of the modern excavations, highly recommended for those interested.

In closing, although it is not necessary, I need to state that: some of you may know that Pandora has books on the subject (anatomy). We frankly admit that we did refer to some contents of the book. But at the same time, we realize that many of the content in the book is inaccurate. So this kit, Pandora, is completed by combining many other books, archives, and drawings. During the presentation of the development, we will also talk about our way of referencing for modellers to understand.

More will be on soon, it would be much appreciated if you press the "watch" button to watch this thread.

In the text @Modelship Dockyard mentioned already the Anatomy book about the HMS Pandora written by John McKay

Here you can find the detailed book review we have here in our forum ShipsofScale

in the same topic you can find the Ship History, the detailed description of other ships of the Porcupine class, also several contemporary drawings existing (frames, outer pülanking, decks etc.) of these ships and also one of the best ship models I have every seen, the 1:36 model of the hungarian Attila Gémes

Because of the modular design, 3D model and Pilot model are synchronized and alternated. We will group all parts

1、Basics
2、Gun deck
3、Hull
4、Keel
5、Gun deck fitting
6、Upper deck fitting
7、Quarter deck fitting
8、Masts and yards
The deck furniture that does not affect the structure will be presented later
Will the kit be more complete than the drawing and images, as it will have upper deck and deck furniture?

Seems to be a good size scale for this ship, and those who buy the kit can them "open Pandora's box"

If it is Pandora s box the chance is high it will be incomplete and there will be missing parts :-)

These are very good news - that means with chapter #8 also the masting and rigging would be possible -> great

Ahoy!

Resin parts insiide, wood elements outside. Where did I hear that? :)
