Hello Barry,
I have used Preac saws (small and large table version) for as long as Preac was in business on Long Island, NY (which is where I grew up although I never visited the facility). Apparently no one in the family or anyone else associated with the the company decided to take over the business. It's a great saw for milling/cutting smaller stock for ship modelling but it is somewhat under powered. Bob Prezioso of shipahoymodels.com offers a 1/3 HP motor upgrade which I now use on all of my Preac saws which has increased the versatility of the saw tremendously. Bob also makes a very good disc sander. The high quality Byrnes table saw is great saw for "larger scale" work. The only advantage a MicroMark has is that you can tilt the blade. As for blades- I purchased a 2&1/4" solid carbide blade with 5/8" arbor from Southern Carbide Specialists, Inc., Quitman, GA (socarb.com) 5 years ago and it's still going strong! In my opinion solid carbide blades, although more expensive, do a better job and last far longer than HSS blades which tend to overheat. A Preac with an upgraded 1/3 HP motor and solid carbide blade is the ultimate in precision small scale milling. There are other companies that make solid carbide blades: Johnson Carbide Products (johnsoncarbide.com) and Malco Saw Company (malcosaw.com) which you mentioned but I haven't had to buy another one in 5 years!
