Hello

Just finished the planking of the hull, glad its painted as it was my first planking job, a bit of filler and fairing to do.
Thinking ahead about how to do the propulsion of the boat, it is a twin screw setup.
Questions
  1. Can a single electric motor with belt drive to each of the propeller shafts?
  2. What size motor/s?
  3. What type of shaft, do they weep?
  4. What sort of controls for forward and reverse?
  5. Did the propellers need to be con-rotating?

Slowly working on the hull, here's an update.
1. Lamination of the keel from macrocarpa timber, there's a local timber mill handy that specializes in macrocarpa Mac Direct https://www.macdirect.co.nz/

3. Staring to plank, I machined the planks to 8 x 2.5 mm macrocarpa.

4. Planking finished, not the best but will be painted, had a problem with station 9.5. about 2 mm to high.

5. Fibreglassed and 1st coat of primer, I was able to fair out station 9.5.

Plus I am drawing up the sails to make templates, I was going to make a set of trial sails to work out the sheeting setups and travels but decided to go all out and make the final set of sails, looking at 250 point cotton sheets at this stage, any other recommendations?

I made up a trial rig to assist to work out the positions of the servos, I will be using a combination of RMG winches (I have 3 x 380D and a 280D that I pulled out of my F100 canting keel yacht) and arm servos.

Yes there's a DF65, DF95 and 2 IOM's in the background and the F100 is in bits up in the antic, just sold the V8 last week, a man can only so many boats.
Looking at painting the dark green antifouling and the black topsides this week.

The test rig for sorting out the standing and running rigging.

For the standing rigging I am use "Masons Multistrand" brown stainless steel trace. Ther's quite alot of wire.
4.9 meters of 30# (0.38 mm)
9.6 meters of 60# (0.53 mm)
3.9 meters of 125# (0.69 mm)
5.6 meters of 150# (0.79 mm)
12.3 meters of 210# (0.91 mm)
4.5 meters of 275# 1.14 mm)

The running rigging I will be using Dyneema stained brown.
24 meters of 0.4 mm
92 meters of 0.6 mm
43 meters of 0.8 mm
10 meters of 1.0 mm
3 meters of 1.3 mm

At the moment I have rigged 38 lines a total of 76 meters and there's another 87 lines 95 meters.

Thanks Brian77, I have been doing radio controlled sailing for 20 years racing IOM's and just recently DF65 & 95. I have built a all carbonfibre F100 yacht with a canting keel, twin rudders, swing rig and a gennaker, but I stripped it of all the electronic to use in this build.

The workshop uses half the garage as well so my car is parked outside.
