Proxxon MF70 Mill Scale Ring

There's a little spring that holds the scale ring in place on the Proxxon MF 70 z-axis. You are NEVER to fiddle with it, or you'll lose it. I lost it. I called the company office in the US, but they don't have it in stock. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can fix the scale ring in the absence of this spring?
