There's a little spring that holds the scale ring in place on the Proxxon MF 70 z-axis. You are NEVER to fiddle with it, or you'll lose it. I lost it. I called the company office in the US, but they don't have it in stock. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I can fix the scale ring in the absence of this spring?

I feel your pain! Luckily Proxxon had it in stock when I lost mine.
It’s a minuscule piece of spring steel. I tried shaping various pieces of metal to no avail and had to wait for them to ship a replacement. Good luck!

I recently made the scale ring obsolete by adding a DRO for the z-axis.

Thanks! A DRO might be the way to go. I'm a little reluctant to drill holes in the housing, but I noticed you glued yours. What kind of glue did you use? CA?

Actually, I only glued the caliper head to its bracket as I couldn’t figure out any other way to attach it. For all the other components, I drilled and tapped 3 and 4 mm holes for screws. @Steef66 did glue all his pieces together. I used 2-part 5-minute epoxy and I have no idea what Stephan used. Probably some magic glue that we have no chance of seeing in the US! ROTF

Well, I'm really out of my depth when it comes to drilling metal. What kind of drill, and what kind of bits did you use?

I didn’t use anything special. Standard metric drill bits and taps with my 20v Dewalt hand drill. You can certainly substitute imperial drill bits, taps and screws. All the MF-70 body parts are aluminum so it’s really easy to drill and tap. If you aren’t comfortable with drilling and tapping epoxy glue is a perfectly acceptable option…
Here are some links to what I used.
