Rigging these models is not easy but it is very rewarding. The ship takes shape as you build it and really becomes a SHIP model when you start the rigging. You'll see that it looks better and better as the ropes are added and you learn more about the names of each one. To me, sails are the frosting on the cake but there is considerably more rigging goes on with them. Start at the bow and work out from the middle to the edges. Standing rigging first and then running rigging. Use black thread for the standing rigging,(covered with tar) and tan for the running rigging, (Not covered with tar) Please do not use white rope. It wasn't even thought of when these ships were being built. Follow the directions and take your time. What ever you do, DON"T let the ropes tie you up and get you frustrated. Take a break and go for a walk to cool off and then try some more. When the rigging is finished you should be able to pull on a rope at the bow and move a rope at the stern at the same time. It's one big cage of ropes and each rope depends on another for strength. No ropes should rub against any other rope. that creates wear on the ropes and they would soon break under real strain. All lines are snug but not really tight. Have fun.
