Rigging Line Accuracy

I have two questions concerning selecting the proper thread size for a line. There are a number of references to what the dimension of the actual ship used.

(1) Is there a way of measuring the "threat" purchased from a vendor? So far I simply assume whatever the vendor labels the product is accurate? This is not a great way since threads purchased from different vendors, labeled the same, are clearly different.
(2) How do you select a thread to use when the visual difference between two threads is almost impossible to detect?

If I understood the question correctly, I will answer this way: it is better to make the rigging yourself because any purchased threads will not be of decent quality, this is a fact. If you are interested in the life of a voropos, you can read here, but there is a lot of information there.

I suggest that you make the little tool in the photo. In my case the two black bands are increments of 1/8in but of course mm would work fine too. Wrap your line around the smaller cylinder, count the number of turns to the mark, and divide the distance to the mark by the number of turns.

Quick and easy!

What I do is measure the thread, wrap the thread around a dowel 10 times measure with a caliper divide by ten to get the right size. I have, gotten thread from lots of different shop all label wrong,
As far as question 2 if it that close I pick the nicest one lol. This is just what I do hope it helps.
