Hello all!
hope you're having a good day!
I am currently refurbishing the Royal Louis Model I assembled almost 20 years ago!
I received the very good spare parts from HisModel online shop and I must confess that l got scared a little seeing hundreds of blocks and deadeyes in front of me ^^ but I am very with the quality of the parts I received.

I started back in early September painting using China Black ink some of the natural ropes I also got on that shop online20250913.jpg

My first Blocks on the ship!

I then started to remove the sails I sew back then, as you could tell they were not that great even thought I did the best I could.

I then painted in Black the yards, just like it was in the past in history.

Some more blocks!
I started assembling the large ones just to get use to it... and it is not as easy as it seems ahah

You are still seeing the old ropes, I hadn't removed then back then

Attaching a little chain left from some other kits to the rudder
20250929.jpg

The "crane" was an very difficult moment for me but I am happy with the way it looks.. By the way I have since updated one end of the crane, under the first basket (thank you Radimir From HisModel for the feedback).20250930.jpg

Trying shrouds with thicker vertical ropes and thinner horizontal ones. I tried in both colours without the Heller roping frame machine but the result isn't great.

I was also told that at my small scale 1:200, it would be probably best to keep the shrouds in Black.

The bottom shrouds of the rear Mast..
ropes through deadeyes are not glued yet so I can tighten them when on the ship

I attached some rope to the canons at the back of them till the railings20251064.jpg

I built some triangles to pack the canon balls using some tea steerers, and railing from other heller kits for the edges of the triangles.
The canon balls are from a famous Chinese online shop! Hope this is convincing

I also used some spare plastic parts to 20251063.jpgbuild a kitchen grill, the kitchen chimney and the chicken coop!
The chimney is made of mettalic left over of PE parts ^^

Hello
You've made a very good decision to reassemble your model. Radek has top quality pulleys and deadeyes.
Unfortunetly I don't agree on deadyes diameter, they're little oversized. I've made the same mistake on my model and many others.
I don't know whether you would like to hear my advice or on what stage you're at. I can point on some parts that could bring
your model more to historical look

The deadyes are little too big. I had oportunity to make model with correct size ones, but I couldn't tie them and used bigger. Now from time
perspective if you have patience place little smaller then what is shown in most build logs. It is a minor detail, but one of more important.
The smaller, the better, but I doubt you will find them in any online store

Those clamps on dead eyes are also too big. I wouldn't use them at all. You can try to solder chain as I did partialy, but there is easier method.
You can fake it wit thread soked in CA glue. Make a loop on desired height and then soke the thread to stiffen it.

Another mistake I made on my model-the
chain was inserted too low it should be on black belt above. My colleague on the Polish forum did something similar in Le Superbe 1/150

Bobstays- that conection on two deadeys with hull. Same thing I should get rid of hook and use a 1/1,5mm ring instead of dead eyes. Also I used pre drilled holes in hull. I should fix the holes and make a much smaller loops little above existing ones in black belt

Those build logs are top notch, I used them as inspiration, maybe you will reach that level as I couldn't

Some lovely work there..
Thank you :

Thank you so much Wojta for the time you spent revieving my posts and your advice. I agree the dead eyes are a little too big but I already fit them all so I might try to fit them as it is to see how it looks like. But I think you are right I will change them.

Oh yes I also have boukmarked this stunning 74 Guns le superbe but I don't think I am capable of what he did.
I didn't know about the second link thank you so much again

I will change my hooks thank you

I spent some time last week repainting the hull
Waterline in Black as it used to the case
20251055.jpg
20251053.jpg
I am painting the top railings in Black
20251056.jpg
I have then painted again in White the hull have sanded it
20251125.jpg
And to finish I have painted the top rear of the hull in blue- I have checked paintings and models and no French ships didn't have this part painted...
20251071.jpg

As I have used the Heller Shroud frame machine to glue with CA some ropes
20251069.jpg

So that I could de-assemble the gunport cover, glue the ropes and re-assemble it so it looks like the gunport cover has its manoeuvring rope!20251126.jpg

And finally what I did over the last couple of days was repainting the Stern.
My Stern was blue and gold but this choice of colour is anachronistic for a ship launched in 1780.
I tried to sum up my researches below:
1700 and before: gold and blue
From 1770 onwards: black and yellow of Naples - the gold became too expensive for the shipyards.
screen15.jpg

There is actually one and only painting of the Ship painted during the révolution in 1795: the Stern is yellow and black like other ships of the time
screen20.jpg

I am thinking of painting the ship before the révolution so my rationale is as following:
- gold should be replaced by yellow - gold was only used if only for coat of arms
- not much blue left (perhaps a little since Royal Louis and Soleil Royal are ships that are supposed to stand out from the other ships of the navy)
-Windows frame in white

I need to dismantle the Stern
20251075.jpg

I first try différent shades of yellow to replace the gold.
20251070.jpg

I tried the historic shade called Yellow of Naples but I find it very ugly like almost "toy-ish"
20251079.jpg

Ok I am reverting back to gold but before I need to use my drill to pierce some détails of the balcony
20251076.jpg
I am also planning to add more détails, some columns are missing on the sides of the Stern, I will glue two wires and paint them in gold.
I will have after to glue them at the right places.
20251077.jpg

And now for the fun I have some gold leaves left from a funny baking session! I will apply them on the Coat of arms of the balcony.
This is my technique to make the gold paint less gold compares to a "real" gold lol

20251121.jpg

20251122.jpg

And the final result!
I think I need to paint the bottom line in Black instead of blue and gold

You could use some wash to tone down color.
