San Bartolome kit# 104

Greetings Everyone,

Masts questions (See picture below)

I hope someone who is further along can help me understand what is going on with the Masts. I have built up the layers an I know they have to be made round, no problem there. What my concern it how they match up or do not match up with the drawing.
The Bowsprit seems fine.

The Foremast seems to be the right length but the large rectangular block area seems longer than needed. Is that correct and it just needs to be turned down accordingly?

The Main mast seems to be to long at the bottom. Like the fore mast the large rectangular block area seems longer than needed. Is that correct and it just needs to be turned down accordingly?

The Mizen mast seems to be long enough but the shoulder at the bottom does not match the drawing. Which is correct, the model or the drawing, or does this just have to get fitted to the main model? Again, the large rectangular block area seems longer than needed. Is that correct and it just needs to be turned down accordingly?

The middle sections for the Foremast and the Main mast are shorter than the drawing. Does this need to be corrected with a replacement dowel?

Finally, the very top of the Foremast and Main mast has one mast section and a rounded topper, the Mizenmast has two sections that does not appear in the instructions or any parts. Do we have to manufacture these ourselves?

Hopefully Jagpilot might be able to offer a little insight as he is past this section!
Have you looked at his pictures for guidance?

Yes you do. Basically any parts in the instruction book that don’t have part numbers are to be manufactured your self. The kit has been pretty good in giving you enough scrap wood to do so.

And a quick side note some of the instructions show no part numbers but in later iterations of the kit Pavel included some additional parts and did not change the instructions to show that parts are now supplied.

Greetings Everyone!

I have been having a lot of fun working on this model. A lot has progressed in the last few days. The decks are on, more lights have been added and staining the deck has really added an element of life to this model. The yards have also been glued up but I did not photograph that.
Please note the camera has made the dark brown under stain really pop and look more black than it does in person.

Looks fantastic !

one quick question: are the sails included in the kit? I see them sold separately on Pavel web site... a tad expensive though.

The Sails were included in the kit. They are screen printed on white fabric.

They will need to be cut out. Any desired stitching will have to be done. The model builder will also have to add all the needed bits to them and they will need to be weathered. I know the ones that can be purchased have been weathered but I do not know what work has or has not been done to them. Perhaps someone that has purchased the Sails can speak to that.

Greetings all,

Progress continues.

It does not show in this picture but I will have to sand down a small section of the plywood rib on the lower section of the hull. I clearly did not take enough off when it was first beveled.

Hi there, Has anybody come across this problem on page 113 on the instructions in the top left corner plate 43. But the index only goes to 42 if that makes sense. Has these been omitted from the kit ?

Greetings,
It is some kind of bending jig. Maybe it was part of another kit or something. I have just soaked my planks (the few I have done) and bent them with a hot bending iron. I have linked on below. Folks, if there is better, please share.

Hi Chris. Yeah that's the conclusion I came to because like you say the model I have is Mark 2 so like you say it could of being part of the instructions of the mk 1 model many thanks C hris
