Seahorse is a Polish editioner of card models. Their Leudo is a medival boat that was used until mid XXth century under sail in the Mediterranean Sea. The Legurian coast - between Monacco and Pisa. Between 1880 and 1930 was the pike of the their development. The boats were between 15-16 meters long - the capacity was 15 to 20 tons.

The main use was freight in particular barreled wine (vino - > vinacciere) and oil business. So we could assume they were the earliest realtank ships of the history.

The kit is scaled in 1/72 and a nice model

and several additives are avaible like
a LC set

and a material sail.

The length is of 410mm
with a hight of 340mm.

Here some pictures from the kit and the manual.

The quality of the print is really good in the detailling.

...now lets start with the build of this kit.

I do start it parallel to the PATALOON as a swinging project. The laudo is in much bigger scale and I think it will be fun to build.

IMG-20210116-WA0043.jpeg
The LC set is very fine detailled.

IMG-20210116-WA0045.jpeg
Here the completed hull skeleton.

the lines are very interesting and the deck is deeply curved. So I will work on tomorrow.

Hi,
I will be watching with interest :))
Several leudo models have already been built (a few on FB and a great report on the Polish cardboard models forum "konradus") There is also a great wooden leudo construction on the "l-arsenale.forumattivo.com" forum if you are looking for additional details and inspiration.
I will warn / remind / apologize in advance for the error in printing part 27Lk, where the bowsprit hole is marked - this should be only on the starboard side. You can choose not to cut and "mask" this printed oval, or download the errata from the "download" section and print it yourself.
Good luck

Tomek

@0Seahorse

Thanks Tomek having already down the errata paper yesterday. So I will print it in the next days.

The only problem I do have got is the mast and yard. Are there any detailled informations about diameters and lengths?

Hi Chris,
...well, the model is designed as a "typical" vessel, not a specific vessel by its name, so the dimensions of the spars are approximate from sources, drawings, sketches, photos. I found a variety of spar design details and the dimensions were "matched" to this "average" leudo. The second point is that these were units of private entrepreneurs, many design details were traditionally passed down "from father to son". Some leudos have been restored, even plans for these units have been created. There is a very interesting report on the construction of leudo on the Italian forum with a huge amount of photos and details, more numerous than in my model. (I don't know if I can link to another modeling site :)))
I think that even if I made minor errors in the dimensioning, they are the limits of the "modeling" error in the scale 1:72. I think the templates in the kit are accurate enough.

Best regards
Tomek

Hello Tomek, thanks for the informative lines. I think I will dated back by giving her a tar-coal imitating anthrazit painted under water ship some small details - and a mixed fright loading of barrels and timber. Green will be the main colour and there will be a large dog aboard I still do look for an intersting model figure. The kit is really nicely done and detailled. I am very happy due to the fit - strengthening the LC-parts by superglue is a very helpfull hint for the later sanding.

So some progress on LEUDO VINACCIERE by application of the deck did happen. The typical leudo is 15-16ms long. A number we often do find in traditional sailing ship lengths. The typical Baltic Sea barges weather Swedish or Prussian are of the same length. I would like to know what is the reason for this. I assume it has to do with the single man driving the boat as owner driven (like some RR). Any other suggestions from you @Ab Hoving?

IMG-20210130-WA0003.jpeg
You can hardly belief how sloped the deck is it is really complicated to bend it

IMG-20210130-WA0008.jpeg
without adding accidentally an hard edge into it but the shape of the hull is very nice.

On the pictures you can see how the bulkheads and horizontal layers stand out of the line of the hull rectangular so these were hardened by the use of some liters ;) of superglue and will be beveled by fine sandpaper to bring them into shape to the hull's curveature.

The front shows a whaledeck to get coming water fastly from the deck and back into the sea and

IMG-20210130-WA0020.jpeg
afterview show the fine lines very well. I do think about filling the fore and after sections by balsawood the enlarge the surface to glue onto...

What do you think?

I did some first alterations die to the art of the time. Very often the walls were inntwo colours if the owner could effort it. So I did add some colour and a middle and a floor ledge. Additivly I added some wood imitation to the floor I showed this bare wood a bit contrasting to the nice wall colours.

IMG-20210130-WA0029.jpeg
I added some more yellow to the edges and a bit of shadow imitation under the cupboards.

IMG-20210130-WA0027.jpeg
The stair is ready - not as precise as I wisched to build it but it is the very end of my eyesight...

IMG-20210130-WA0031.jpeg
So let's start building the furniture...
I do search for my electron microscope meanwhile.

BEWARE OF CARD MODELS
COMING AROUND

As Laudos are Ligurian coasters sailed with a single latin sail.

IMG-20210130-WA0001.jpeg

Usually 15 to 16ms long they did their job as tankers - by using barrels.

IMG-20210130-WA0003.jpeg
IMG-20210130-WA0008.jpeg
The deck is very sloped as a reinvention on ocean liners "whale deck" for giving overcoming water - and it's wight - as fast as possible from the deck.

IMG-20210130-WA0014.jpeg
The bulkheads do need beaveling obviously...

IMG-20210130-WA0019.jpeg
IMG-20210130-WA0020.jpeg
IMG-20210130-WA0023.jpeg
the horizontal parts, too

These ship often were owner driven and so I want to add a boatman a boatman's boy and a dog. The leudo will get "downdated" to an early version and so a coal tar underwater hull with anthrazit paint over the plumbum red. Also she will getting some variations in load by adding timbers and boxes. So the tanker will transger to an early general cargo frighter.

IMG-20210130-WA0025.jpeg
The interior is gifted constructed - with a propper staircase and stairs.

IMG-20210130-WA0027.jpeg
But I cut it's breadth short due to individuallicing it's appearance.

The kit has been ordered with blocks, lasercut bulkheads and extra stuff. Tomik supports me very kindfull.

IMG-20210130-WA0029.jpeg
I altered the interieur to a contemporary two colour sheme with an imitated wooden bar between.

IMG-20210130-WA0031.jpeg
The furniture is very well done due to a lack of acrylic paint

IMG-20210130-WA0033.jpeg
I used my aquarell pencils to colouring the white cutting edges. I imitazed a pillow and a blanked as further detailling.

IMG-20210130-WA0036.jpeg
I have to sand on the interior box to get it into the notch in the hull skeleton - 1/10mm. So I hardened the paperbox by adding superglue and do sand patiently...

So shipyard closed for today - let's see what will be done tomorrow...
