Self-made drum sander for fine sanding of wood to thin thicknesses

I was always dreaming of making my own wood thickness sander but so far I was not able to find an accurately machined drum on which I could mount the sand paper. The common rubber body drums I had purchased were wobbling so much I threw them away and forgot about my dream till now.

Brilliant. I think I have everything to replicate your delightful tool, including a drill I can align and dedicate to the task and a sanding drum that I can modify with a through shaft. You have actually produced a very simple and accurate tool that is very much like the Jim Byrnes design in principle - and very much less expensive.
