Soleil Royal - ZHL 1/90 Scale by Paulb [COMPLETED BUILD]

My shipment of the ZHL Soleil Royal arrived at 9:30 this morning via FedEx.


After scrupulously disinfecting the heavy (22 lbs) box - here is what I found inside:

Oh...Man..., This is true moment...I love to open new kit boxes. They smells various timer, laser burns and... smells of a new build log!!!

Did you have a chance to look inside? How is the timber quality?

The timber looks fantastic to me. The box containing the metal fittings weighs 8 lb 8 oz - or 3.855 kg!!!

I'm not sure about the quarter galleries. I just printed out the instructions that were on the CD. Next I will do an inventory. I've looked at the plans tho - this thing is BIG!!

Inventory is complete - no missing parts!! I think I'll have to epoxy all of the metal parts on, or use screws or rivets lol. If the box weighs 22 pounds - the finished model will be about the same.

Yes and they’re really heavy.

Its always very exciting when you get a new model like that. Many days are spent studying the plans and looking at the contents before you commence the build.

I must tell you all that the three large plan sheets are all in English -pretty good translations too. The schedule of included parts is also in English. That, along with the figures diagraming each wood sheet with its laser cut parts, makes it easy to find parts as well as conduct a through inventory.

The keel is now glued together - and it begins. Is it recommended that I sand off the char between the bulkheads and the keel?

hi paulb just want to see how your build comes along. can i ask what it cost you to have it shipped to the usa? did you order from zhl? just wondering because i want to order this kit. im in niles,ohio and wondering when you ordered the kit. it seems that i cant order it till the 18th of this month
