Sovereign of the Seas- Mantua 1:78 scale

You are doing a marvelous job! However, I have one question. On early British ships of the Line, weren't the upper bulwarks painted black instead of blue? I know that the Spanish and French used blue, but every depiction of British ships show black. I'm curious . . .

Bill
Hi Bill, You could be correct but my wife has been trying to get me to build this ship for roughly 35 years, when it came time to paint it I asked her if she liked the blue or black she chose blue. My choice would have been black but we all know who wins that battle.;)

correct answer!!!!!

I'm sorry you abandoned this beautiful ship.
Hi Lologaditano, I havn't abandoned the build, I live in Arizona (Phoenix area) It just gets to hot in the garage to work on anything, so I have to put everything on hold for a bout 4 months. I have used my office in the past over the summer but the wife took it over this year to work from home. It's driving me nuts not to be able to work on it or any other projects. Should be able to get started and more pictures starting late September.

My son lives in Tempe, AZ, near you. It REALLY is hot down there in summer! It's no surprise that you don't want to work outside.

It gets well over 130 in my garage because the door faces to the west. After 28 years I retired from the City of Tempe roughly 3 years ago, my last 8 years was Maintenace Supervisor on the Tempe Town Lake.
