Sovereign of the Seas - Sergal 1:78 (with hopefully many added details)

Thank you very much John, Of course as luck would have it I have the absolute rubbish sergal provided white metal then coated pieces. Maybe I just don't bend them and leave some horrible looking gaps at the sides? Any bright ideas would be most welcome.

A base made like deck planking... now that is a novel approach to making a model base! Looks great too!

Wow.. the flag really looks great!

As for Mike Dowling's question on bonding metal decorations to wood, I have used medium viscosity CA glue, but if you are patient, you can use 5 minute epoxy, which bonds better and the glue joint is flexible compared to CA.
Thanks Kurt --- Do give Goop a try - You won't be disappointed.

ooo

Mike -- can't be of much help with that. You might try adding some heat to the bits? not with a lighter but poss. hot water for a bit of time. Maybe some
other builders working with the current kit might have some suggestions??

That would be quite an operation to bring that boat down! Looks cool though!
Paul, Yes I thought of that as well. So added a long rope with two hooks. I had also searched for info and found the following;
I measured the rope and the length was just about right looking IMO..

Lowering a boat from on deck

  • Preparation: The boat was secured with heavy ropes and a system of blocks and tackle.
  • Lifting: Two systems of tackle were used. First, stay tackles lifted the boat vertically off its chocks on deck.
  • Swinging out: As the yard tackles were hauled, the stay tackles were eased, causing the boat to swing out over the side until it hung from the yard tackles.
  • Lowering: Finally, the yard tackles were slowly lowered to set the boat down into the water.

Hi All,
Lologaditano, Grant, Rob @rtwpsom2 thanks of course much appreciated
Papatolos THANKS for your many likes

And thanks to all mates for looking at my first - poorly made - video. I've been practicing and now getting better. I'll post a couple of "completed" videos - then wrap this one up.

PS: I don’t know where to post this thread -- But for builders interested building this kit -

Higaki Kaisen copy.jpg

I just ordered this one directly from the best legitimate retailer in Japan for the Woody Joe kits (Zootoyz) WHY?
- the ¥ has taken a very significant beating against the $.
This kit retail sold (level 4) there are two versions the level 2 is more simplified and does not allow for many inner hull parts for added details. Level 4 $202.00 USD - Ebay sells them for north of $300 USD and add $100 shipping - AND those sellers don’t specify if kit is level 2 or 4. hmmmm??

With shipping out-the-door to CA -- $250.00 a great price for this interesting kit - there are a couple of builders here who have logged their work

@Submarinerblue here is his completed images log - really great!
!

AND this one - wow as well @Ekis

My next project - Pavel’s Oseberg should be, for me, a quick project (that is of course subjective) so this Higaki Kaisen is "a long term investment" haha - that reminds me of George Carlin who joked that his mother bought green bananas as "a long term investment".

Cheers,

Hi all,

Thanks so much for your likes ---

Stern flag is done. I chose the Segal kit included example. Some images.
Next up is designing a framing on which to set the ship onto its base platform.

The sails supplied in my kit. Are dole and lifeless. With a strong backlight they look good. This is not the case with the sails on my victory build. They look vibrant in all lighting conditions.

Considering both ships are from Mantua. I’m disappointed with the sails for the Sovereign of the Seas.
