Yes, this is an introduction thread, if you have questions you can post them in the General\Help with models section of our forum. But I do have a great option for you, IMHO. You can start your own build log and post all relative questions there. Also, you can use our search functionality. For now, I found one post that describes the technic of tapering masts\spars.Nice reception! It had me wondering if I was truly on the Internet or not...
So, this is not an introduction type of question. And so please move this if it would be best somewhere else. Dowels for masts and arms. How do you taper them?
Thanks to all who have posted their skills! I have spent more time reading this site than actually building the model so far.

Hi. Shaping masts and spars. People have their own ways, mine is explained on post #243 of my build log of the Mary Rose. This is not a cheap shot in trying to push my build log(!), it's just that I no longer have the photos contained in that particular post as I don't hang on to them. Please open up a build log and keep us posted on how you get on. Cheers.Nice reception! It had me wondering if I was truly on the Internet or not...

Looks like you have a lot more instructions than I have.A warm welcome fro me also, a fellow "chinese"-builder.
Just finished it. A thread and pictures are in this forum.
By the looks of it I get the impression your version is yet another compared to mine. Makes me wonder how much different versions are of this kit?
Sofar I see: Harvey, Halcon, New Port... Any more?

Well, not much: one doublesided A4 with a bit of the hull and detailparts, and the view of the masts and sails. Found most instructions on The Net...Looks like you have a lot more instructions than I have.
Yours is definitely a different model. And I LOVE the way the transom is planked! Mine is not planked but also differs in a few ways. Mine was from Amazon here https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083GZFWMQ/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Where and what did you get?A warm welcome fro me also, a fellow "chinese"-builder.

Thanks for the links to that spar and mast tapering post. It was really informative. And I've found some other info by searching the subject as you recommended.Yes, this is an introduction thread, if you have questions you can post them in the General\Help with models section of our forum. Mast Tapering Help
I had a mast shatter on me in the drill. It was ruined splinters.shipsofscale.com
Well, the information I sent you is from someone's build log. It is like dairy about building your model. Here you can start your own. Thanks for the links to that spar and mast tapering post. It was really informative. And I've found some other info by searching the subject as you recommended.
I'm not thinking to investing in another power tool (mini lathe) just yet. Not ruling it out though! I've definitely spent more on new tools than this little model kit so far!
I'm not clear on what "starting your own build log" means. And I searched first! So a little more assistance on that subject would be appreciated.

I've tapered by hand sanding (the few times I've needed to). Very tedious. But that was for models other than ships that require a LOT more of those tapers! So I am looking for a more "expedient" way of doing so. Doing the same type of sanding by machine looks like a good option!I clamped a belt sander with a fine grit, upside down onto my workmate, so the belt is facing up. Very easy and accurate to taper the masts and the yards. Much better and faster than the recommendation of planes, lathes and hand sanding as recommended in the instructions.
