The newcomer "BowerBird" showcases the completed model

How many hours a week do you work on your models?
I haven't made a detailed calculation. I work at the substation for seven days and then rest for seven days. The rest time is basically every day, either half a day or from morning till night. It's about the same now, but I'm not as passionate as before. It's about five or six hours a day.

Wow ! Is all I can say .You are a very talented young man and have
many years ahead for your modeling. Your photography skills are
amazing as well. Appreciated seeing your work.
Cheers , Winova from Nova Scotia , Canada

An examination of the skin of your hand holding the anchors speaks volumes about your dedication to your craft. Only a working man dedicated to his craft has hands like that. Hands to be proud of. Perhaps, given time, your family too, will learn to take pride in a family member who has demonstrated such skill and devotion to his chosen field. You are the kind of person necessary to the success of high culture. ;) Okay

Hello Bowbird,

First of all, welcome to SoS. :D Thumbsup
Nice that you have decided to join the forum. You've posted quite a number of models. Lots of pictures, and it's clear that you're passionate about modelling. You can also see from your models how you have developed, and that is exactly what makes a good modeller.

Really beautifully done. I have a few questions for you.

The Black Pearl looks really great. How did you arrange the rigging?
Was there a rigging plan?
Which company made the model and what scale is the Black Pearl in?

On the HMS Enterprize you wrote that you used 0.1 mm wire to represent the wooden dowels on the planks.
What material is the wire made of that is so hard and doesn't warp, that it can press into the planks like this and looks so even?
What plank width does the Enterprise have for the deck and outer planking?
How long did you build the Enterprise?

Thank you very much for your answer and if you have any questions, you will always find answers here.

Best regards

Günther

Hello Gunther
The model set of the Black Pearl is a 1:48 scale set made by a Chinese merchant named "Wuhan Magic Spirit". The details of their black Pearl are quite good, except for the tail building. I have made some of my own modifications to this part.
For the rigging part, I referred to the book "Classical Sailing Ship Models" more often. I'm not quite sure if you have an electronic version of this book or other books on the ropes and pulleys of ship models. Since the Black Pearl was originally a ship that incorporated a lot of fantasy and did not actually exist, I added some rope details that might not have been found in the original stills.
As for the inner deck nails of the HMS Enterprize, I made them with soft 0.1mm brass wire. It's very convenient to buy it on a regular shopping APP. I first drilled a hole with a needle (the 0.15mm drill bit is too fragile and prone to breakage, so it's useless), and then inserted the brass wire (even though it's soft, If only a small part of the head is hard, then press it down with a sharp-edged wooden knife, then tear it off by hand, and then do not breathe on it, as it is easy to be blown away. After completing a row, submerge it with 502 glue and then sand the entire deck. It's indeed very difficult to do this. It requires some practice to find a sense of your own. The deck and the external hull are both provided by the suit itself, with a thickness of 1mm. The internal deck is laser-marked on a single board, not pieced together. Measured, it is approximately 2mm. The width of the outer ship planks is approximately 2.8mm. Round to the nearest whole number, 3mm is sufficient. This boat was made in May last year and worked until around March this year. There was a period in between when it wasn't very diligent. If I keep doing it, I think I can finish it in half a year (if I don't go to work and only do this except for eating and sleeping).

Wow great work a pleasure to look at all you have achieved in such a short while. Hope you carry on enjoying this wonderful hobby for many years to come. Congratulations and welcome. Mark

Hello Bowerbird,

as the saying goes: hurry up and wait ... be patient and take your time. Only then will it be a beautiful model. Quality is what counts. Otherwise you'll only be annoyed if you overdo it and have to do it again.

Thank you very much for your answer. It's amazing. So much attention to detail.

Many thanks and best regards

Sorry, due to the national network firewall, I have difficulty registering a youtube account. The phone number and email address I use in China are all unavailable for registration. If registration only required an email address, it would be much simpler, but I still need a phone number. When I have a youtube account, will I follow you
