Hi all,

After my Vikingship build here the next build; Arizona. The kit has some history and sat in my stash untill early 2018. I bought the Eduard models Big Ed set and a Artwox wooden deck. Started building and found it needed metal barrels from Master Model which I ordered through Super-Hobby in Poland. End of januari 2018 I was this far:

Then it became january 2021 and it sat boxed on my shelf:

Hmmmmm.... time to go on! End of 2021 we would have the 80 year anniversary of Pearl Harbour, what a deadline to have?:

The work done untill that point; Did all the sidewall-PE:

Did some superstructure:

Scratched a rudder that was missing:

Tried some colour on the hull:

And..... stashed her. She went into a small cabinet with some other stuff:

Untill this week, it started to itch. The vikingship build was ending and 2026 would give us 85 years PH! So Ronald thought; let us start again!!
This is out of her box

This is out of her box after checking all was there (and all was!):

Mmmmhhhh... interesting. Should be possible to finish her december 2026!

So; from here I will go on. Slowly but steady. So follow along! :)

Hello Ronald,
Very nice work on your Arizona. I see you got a good supply of photo etched parts. I have an Arizona and a USS Indianapolis waiting in the wings. I am sure I will enjoy and learn a great deal from following your thread.

Hi Ronald.
Unless you have a personal preference for keeping your photos on an external service such as Flickr, we strongly encourage you to upload all images directly to our server instead of linking to external sites.
We've had numerous cases where externally hosted images disappeared because of account restrictions, deleted accounts, or other reasons, leaving valuable build logs incomplete. By hosting your photos here, you help preserve your posts and ensure they remain available to the entire community.

Rest assured, we take good care of all images uploaded by our members.

Ronald, take a look at this link. BB-39 USS Arizona Booklet of General Plans (1941) https://archive.org/details/bb39bogp1941
your rudder appears to be to long, take a look at Sheet 3 - Outboard Profile in the link i posted. i presume you are not going to add the 8 docking keels to the bottom of the model being you have painted the hull? how are you going to do the 2 bolted plates on the main deck that is between the #3 14" gun turret & the break to the upper deck as shown in Sheet 8 - Main Deck as it is wood covered not bare metal?

Thanks guys!

@ Jim; I do post on multiple forums with my pictures. So with a payed Flick account I can do that without the restrictions of those forums. For example deeplinkig from one forum to another that would boost the data on the first one. And that is not what they want.
I know you keep good care of my uploaded content ;) And aware of problems in previous years with for example Photobucket.

@Davidp : I will look into that! Thumbsup

EDIT some spelling errors fixed ;)

Still one layer... so I could do that. Specific (model)link how to make them?

Please explain, I do not understand exactly what you mean :)

Saved the data on my harddrive, thanks for giving this link!Thumbsup

And the box with goodies is present:

Sorted out so all is right under my hands. Allthough I have airco on the attic it is warm here momentary (temperature outside almost 40 degrees celsius). The airco needs some service so no building today and tomorrow.

Stay tuned!

Thanks!

Went up the attic to see the rudder and made some pictures. My rudder is in heigth correct I think:

Then I compared the pictures:

20260627_184904 by Ronald Halma, on Flickr

Left my Arizona, right the drawing. My opinion: the piece before the rudder is not correct (where it sits to the rudder). I dont know if anyone has done it before but to make it look correct I would shorten the piece approx. half in heighth and shorten the rudder a tiny piece.

The 2 bolted plates; the Eduard set is made to fit the Mini Boss/Banner deck. So there is no deck piece for these plates. I could paint them deck colour or simply leave it as is.

The docking keels; what size would they be in 1:350 and what would the width of every piece be?

Let me know what you all think :)

what i did when correcting Revell's 1/429 scale USS Arizona, part of my 17 ship OBB build, i totally removed the rudder skeg that the rudder is attached to, did the corrections to hull's stern area as it was concave instead of convex then built a new rudder skeg using 4 vertical layers of 1mm styrene plastic. once the glue was cured i made certain the bottom of the skeg was flat before gluing it to the hull, measured, marked then cut/carved to shape. once that was done then made a new corrected size & shaped rudder.
do you still have the excess decking material that was part of the new wooden decks?
read this link then do the math for 1/350 scale for the docking keels. https://shipsofscale.com/sosforums/threads/uss-arizona-trumpeter-1-200-build-log.16450/post-430991

My 2 cents….

In my book it’s about time, what can be seen, and the model viewer.

The rudder looks good, in the end on the stand will a viewer see it? Family and friends will be amazed at the overall appearance. Why take the time?

Will the docking keels be seen by a viewer?

Your plan for the deck plates sounds good. Can’t imagine that someone will admire your beautiful work, and say those covers should have a wood top!

This project has a hell of a lot of components, that will yield a beautiful result. A huge time investment. Why spend the time on unnoticeable perceived issues?

All the best with it.

Thanks,

-Rich
