You can also build the vessel like layed up in ordinairy, saves a lot of hammocks.
Yes.... LOLIn the harbor at the dock?
Actually, doing the hammocks, deadeyes, and rigging are kind of therapeutic. My blood sugar has gone down the past few months. Maybe I can have another ice cream tonight? It does bother me a bit that this model is designed to show the museum phase of the Connie rather than the wartime version. The hatches are wrong, there are guard rails on the hatches, and the capstan is unworkable in its current environment. I'm not sure how I can convert it to wartime footing at this time. What does laid up like ordinary mean? In the harbor at the dock?
Yup... from a historical standpoint your build is a bit of a mash up. But heck - who cares? Are you having fun? Model ship building is a progressive learning curve. For your next model you will do a bunch of "up front" research...I'm not sure how I can convert it to wartime footing at this time.
Now, for this month's photos. I can see now I've made a lot of mistakes. Keeping lines tight is sometimes a challenge. Also, my foremast leans forward a bit. I'm also wondering if I shouldn't have done the main mast first.
Thanks, Stephen. I’m working on it and learning a lot with this build.Hi Victator,
In my opinion it is best to see mistakes as a learning opportunity the challenge is to remember what you did wrong and try not to repeat it!
You are doing a great job, take your time and try to think ahead.
Cheers,
Stephen.
When ships were not used at wartime they were detackled and only a very small crew of a few man stayed onboard to do some maintenance. What does laid up like ordinary mean? In the harbor at the dock?
plank this one
This is a good example of what I meant about planks not being to scale on models..... LOL...How would yo like to plank this one?
Decorations are 8 and a half pounds of metal.Looks great for the price Is it wood? Are the decorations plastic?
yowsers!Decorations are 8 and a half pounds of metal.
For the record, I lost 11, recovered 9. I ALWAYS buy extras for the small parts!Question of the day: How many 3 mm deadeyes can you lose in the brown carpet before you have to order more?View attachment 172751
Victator, would you mind checking your carpet? I just dropped a deadeye and can’t find it, I think it may have rolled over to your house.Question of the day: How many 3 mm deadeyes can you lose in the brown carpet before you have to order more?View attachment 172751
