USS Constitution - Model Shipways (kitbashed) 1:76.8 by GGibson

Be careful with the sanding. By sanding the block angle for a better fit aft, you are moving the forward end aft as well and may end up being short further on in the build. Check for the consequences of your adjustments. An alternative is to just add a filler block in the gap between the transom and the filler block.

Jon
you beat me to the punch with this post, Jon.

Greg, just glue some excess Basswood to the aft ends of the blocks and sand away everything that doesn't belong? May be easier than fabricating wedges. I think you will want to rigidity of the glued joint when you're done.

I was thinking I had read there was a certain prescribed distance between the front edge of this bottom block and the back corner of the last gunport that's located in the Commodore's cabin. Let me try to find that reference again.
Thanks for the response, Peter! Appreciate the feedback. Yeah, I found the reference that I recall reading. In Bob Hunt's practicum, in Section 6.1, Stern Preparations, Page 7, he states "You can also see that the tip of the piece is 1/8" from the lower left hand corner of the gunport." Then I looked at Page 4 of the MS plans and measured the distance (duh, why didn't I do this in the first place?). That measurement looks more like 1/4". Definitely more than an eighth! And, in looking at the MS Page 4 plans, as well as the BlueJacket plans and the AotS plans, it appears the bottom of a chainplate for the mizzen topmast standing backstay is attached to the hull practically smack dab between the quarter gallery front edge and that back corner of the gunport. If true, it would seem to need more than 9.6 inches full scale. <shrug>

So... it appears I am good on the length forward. I am, though, going to make new bottom blocks that are continuous pieces with no large, filled gaps.

Thanks again, gentlemen, for your input! Y'all rock!
