I'm one of the current refugees from ModelShipWorld.com. I'm about three years into the build, and while my build log from the now hosed site is likewise hosed, I have been keeping my own personal build log on my desktop PC. I'm trying to decide if I post my build log here going forward. And if so, is it worthwhile for me to upload the 200 plus hundreds pages from my pdf files here, or whether I just start the log from where I stand today. Some friends and builders I've come to know well at MSW also post here, so I'm thinking I might follow suit.

My work flow has been that when I work on Connie, I take photos on my phone, from there I've uploaded them to the MSW site and posted that day's log. When I get home, I copy the pictures and text from that build log and add them to my personal log. Right now I'm a little behind, in that I'm a about a month behind from where I left off at MSW. I'll have to see if I can use the same workflow for this site that I used there, though I feel that I probably can. Then it's a matter of how far back I go in posting my build here.

Stay tuned?

Hey Peter! As Mustafa said, it is good to see some familiar faces! I, too, have not decided how much of my prior work from MSW I will post here. I am so early on in my Constitution build that not many builders reading it here for the first time would get much out of it that they couldn't from a quality build log already here on SoS. And you guys already know where I am at... and you're the ones I most want to keep updated. If I can catch a few new readers here to either assist in my build where needed or to allow me to assist them whenever they get to particular points in their future Constitution builds, that's the target audience that I'm shooting for.

Anyways, great to see you gentlemen here. I hope this change goes well.

Mustafa and Gregg,

I am delighted to see the two of you are here and look forward to picking up where we left off at MSW. (Jon hasn't chimed in yet, but I know he posts here as well)

Gregg, If you're new here, how did you earn those stripes? I don't seem to have any (yet?). As I mentioned to Mustafa off line, I am considering this move as an opportunity to reorganize and edit my entire personal build log, but I need to figure out the best way to do it. It will take a lot of time to repost three years worth of the log, and I don't want to wait until that's done to post current progress. Keep two threads active here? One called xxx 1 0f 2, where I post everything from day one, and another thread called xxx 2 of 2 (can I even rename this thread?) where I post starting with current progress? Do you have any thoughts on that?

Also, Once I found Mustafa's thread here, I bookmarked it, so I can get there easily. Does SoS have a feature similar to MSW's "Manage Followed Accounts"? I had a directory of build logs saved there for quick and easy access to the builders I followed - and there were a bunch.

Lastly, Jon, I'm sure you'll chime in sooner or later. Consider this a preemptive "Hi There".

Peter

Hello Peter,
It's great to see you, Mustafa and Gregg here. I'm sure a few more folks will migrate over. I wish I had done like you and kept a personal build log. Sadly, I did not. Although I have all my photos, all the text is lost and so now I will simply have to rely on my memory for anything I did in the past. Very glad to hear you will be recreating your log. I was certainly planning on using it to help me with the rest of my build. I'll have my build started here shorty.

It is a shame that older build logs will be lost. I have been referring to several older build logs at MSW that I will no longer have access to. (I don't see XKen reloading his build here. Hmmm, I should probably look to see if he also double dipped on his log.) I just don't know if I'll want to invest the time in going back to day one. It's only been a couple of days since MSW went poof, and I've been back and forth on this as much as I have been on several of the Constitution build decisions.

Now that you've experience a data loss, I'm hoping the take-away from this is that you start keeping an offline version of your build log. In my case, I print a book annually (and hope to only have the four volumes!). Part of the reasoning is to have these printed books on a coffee table near the completed Constitution for friends and family to browse through as they gaze lovingly at my beloved Conny. :D

I changed my mind and decided it wasn't that difficult to upload my three years worth of build logs.

A note to new followers, I made the decision early on not go with the typical black and white paint scheme. This came as a result of my becoming infatuated with the hull planking. Factored into the mix as well was that I actually started the build log thinking I was going to build the Constructo kit of the Constitution. I switched horses to the MS version after taking a good look at the Constructo plans and having found a wealth of build logs on the MS kit. I really liked the look of the Constructo in terms of finish and have only occasionally regretted my decision to eschew the black and white scheme.

The uploads begin with the next post

I learned that I couldn't delete this post, where I had continued posting from where I left off above. When I saw how easy it was for me to split the pages of my build log entries from my personal files, I decided to post from volume one page one. Let's see how this works..

It didn't. The pdf files didn't show up as images. So, I had to "Convert" the entire document into jpg files, which conveniently provided separate files for all the pages in the pdf. Now, do I post a few pages at a time? Let's see how many I can upload at a pop.. 10? Yep. 20? Sweet! Do I try for more per post, or do them in batches of 20. I'll go with the latter.
