Hi all. I’m Paul and have decided to take up modeling again. I used to build some in high school but now 35 yrs later I decided to give it a shot. I went with the USS Constitution as I retired from the Navy and wanted to do something historical. I’ll post pics as I progress. I’ve been at it for about 3 weeks so far.

Hallo and a warm welcome here on board of our forum.
I just moved the topic to the correct area, due to the fact, that you mentioned that you make a building log.
Great to see this model .....

The best advice about rigging that I ever got was NEVER use cotton thread unless you run it around a candle to wax the fiber dust catchers. Beat rigging thread is linen thread from model businesses.

Keep the log going, Paul, and welcome aboard! I just picked up the Constitution kit because I had built it back when I was 12 or so - bought it by using what our grocery store called 'Green Stamps', which they'd give out every time you shopped there. Can't wait to relive my own history. Your photos look excellent! (by the way, what camera/lens do you use to get close ups of your modelling work? my phone camera stinks. All the pics are blurry. I was thinking I need to get a DSLR with a macro lens. But that costs some coin!)

Welcome, I'm fairly new to modeling and this site also. Everyone here is wonderful about sharing their knowledge. I was given this same model over th holidays and look forward to starting it. Enjoy yourself and don't be concerned about asking questions. Btw, my plan on the sails, when I get that far, is to use the plastic ones that are supplied as molds for cloth material.

I too bought the Revell Connie with babysitting money when I was 12, hard to believe that was 45+ years ago, the hobby store manager tried to talk me out of it, as my skill level was not there. He was right. I did find a newer kit a year ago for $60 USD and bought it. She is safely waiting in my stash of models yet to be built.

pbryan, once again, you are off to a great start. When you do get to rigging, definitely use wax and then use a candle to melt the wax into the thread, there are so many youtube videos, I would recommend watching some. The rigging plans from Revell are pretty good, study them carefully.

I have an iPhone X. Takes pretty good pics. It was a gift as I wouldn’t pay that much for a phone.
