Viking ship kit

I ordered the Oseberg from Pavel perhaps 10 days ago. Upon completion of my order I received a communication that payment had been received.

This evening I contacted Volodymyr to enquire when my model may be despatched. I was delighted that Volodymyr replied to my email late this evening.

I post this message to inform others that anyone that may wish to deal with this company, will probably be delighted with the level of customer service. I have been so far.

These days, it is seldom that customer service is consider important and especially so following payment.

Well done to thisbusiness and its staff.

Ashley
Excellent, good choice.

As A note of interest, what are the two track like pieces near the stern assembled as a V on the deck ? and how are the small pieces assembled ?

Those are gangplanks. Only one was originally documented and it was found in the forecastle of the burial (which would make sense), although it is currently displayed in the stern at the museum. Page 49 of Pavel's instruction manual shows the construction - simple, equally spaced cleats for traction the I believe were hewn into the plank. They are simulated by gluing small strips to the plank.

Doesn't his video #19 (just above it on this message thread) show the rudder? I haven't watched it yet, but it's called "Rudder blade". Maybe it just shows the construction, but not the attachment.

Yea shows the same as #20

Responding to a few questions above. I have not yet connected the steering oar to the hull, there is simply not enough time for this stage. There are two gangways in the kit and they are located in the letter V, the reason is obvious, the presence of posts for the spar, as they are located along the axis of the ship to set the gangway along the axis is not possible, and therefore you need two gangways, otherwise there will be a roll to one side. I didn't think it would have to be explained.... If someone decides to literally follow the look of Drakar from the museum in ‘Oslo’ it is his right, but what does it have to do with me ? In this case it is necessary to throw away most of what is installed on the deck of my kit, and I am not going to do it....

It seems some people are upset. I think that we ought to consider this a very attractive kit. I also think that we need to understand that it may not be accurate to thd original in all ways. We therefor need to realize that if we are not happy with the kit as it is we are in a position to alter it in such a way as we see fit. I am still waiting for the model and since before my order, of near on eigjt weeks I've consideted alterations to the model as supplied. I've considered the alterations as I've followrd build logs here. On doing so, I've felt that improvements are possible but at the same time, no way will I condem the kit as supplied by Pavel at this time.

I think "upset" might be too strong a word. Yes, there has been quite a bit of discussion regarding the differences between the kit and the actual ship, but as evidenced in one of my replies to you, I fully understand and support his decisions to design the kit the way he did. I also have the ability to change things as I see fit. I have, in the past, pointed out the discrepancies and discussed the changes I am making, but I don't try to sway anyone one way or the other. It is your model. Pavel has put out a wonderful kit. You won't find many kits that don't include at least some plywood. I haven't found any in Pavel's. I sincerely hope that Pavel hasn't taken offense to my detailing the choices I have made, as no offense was intended.

Friends, I have absolutely nothing to take offence at. I design my ships so that building them gave pleasure to those who build them, and I am sincerely interested to see how my ideas are modified and become something else and no less interesting and beautiful.... I myself do not like to copy built ships, so I watch with interest new versions of my designed kits. And yes you are right, I don't like plywood, it doesn't have the soul that wood has, that's why a couple of years ago I decided to make the power frame of all new kits only of wood, even though it is much more expensive.....
