What software for 3D printing

Then you might like OpenSCAD.
That looks interesting. The only thing that keeps me in the Windows environment, now that I'm (kind of) retired is F360. It was always my plan to go 100% linux at this point in life, just because I'm one of 'those' people. Neither am I averse to shifting away from F360. I'll give it a look.

Wow, this place is amazing, thank you!

OK, so let me just say that drawing itself is a great hobby! Strange as it may seem, as you get better at drawing, the software itself starts to lead you. Whenever I start something it takes me forever to "see" what I am going to create. Finally, once the pieces fit together, literally, in my mind, I start chopping away at the block of marble, as it were.

Really, you will get lost in the drawing, once you've worked through the learning curve. So, as I've mentioned before, spend a little time really getting to know what you want to create before making a decision about what software you want to use. It's a little like buying a kit. As I've said many times when selling kits, it's not the money; it's the subject matter. If you are excited about the HMS Victory, even a beginner will make that work. If you couldn't care less about a rowboat, no matter how easy it is to build, you won't finish it.

It's the same with the software. The excitement, and the missing pieces, seem to be in organic fixtures.

Rshousha, Re enjoyment of drawing with a lead pencil and CAD, I quite agree.
Another peripheral aspect of the hobby which I really enjoy is designing and making jigs and tools, sometimes quite complex. Elsewhere on this SOS site and my own site (johnsmachines.com) I show tools and machines which I have made.
My profession was organic and manual (Obgyn surgeon), and my hobbies and needs have lead me into serious woodworking, metal machining, metal casting, silver soldering, welding, CNC electronics and making CNC machines, writing for pleasure (on my blog). And photography.
Unfortunately, my foray into model ship building has come late in life, and there are limitations of sight, coordination, stamina and patience.
Sorry for getting a bit off topic there. I am slowly exploring Blender.
