Thank you, sir, for the encouragement. Perhaps I will post my build after all.
 
I think everyone has his/her motivation and reasons to build models, write a build log and reply to other postings.
For me it's rather straight forward: I just enjoy building a model and share my progress on SOS. The reasons for posting are twofold, one is to just share, no matter how bad my model looks or how my lack of craftsmanship is evident in the build log. The second reason is that, almost inevitably, someone will point out an error or suggest an alternative solution to an issue or advice on available resources. If one is willing to invest some time, there are thousands of postings with relevant information on modeling, a true learning experience.
And finally, one should not refrain from starting a build log because one can't meet the standards of the top one builders here on SOS. If that were the case, the number of build logs would be significantly smaller.

My interests are Chesapeake Bay work boats I do very little rigging and my models are built very much like the real wooden work boats were some time ago we do still build a few that way. I live on the Chesapeake Bay in Mathews County Va. we have a rich Maritime history here been building ships and boats since the 1600'S. The men here were boat builders, mariners and fisherman. I belong to 2 model boat clubs nearby, so I am lucky to have all of this history and knowledge at my fingertips. So maybe I should share some of my work and be more active. So here is a tease this is the Maid King a work boat in transition using a rudder and tiller built in the mid 1920's here in Mathews County and used in the pound net fishing. She is rigged as a pile driver to set pound poles for the nets. She met her end on the burn pile in the late 1980's as she was no longer serviceable.

Now that's a boat I've never seen. Two questions please; How does this work? After they drive the pole, then what? And when they finish fishing do they retrieve the pole and how does that work?

As you can see, I come from the good old Germany. I joined SOS because I think it's really nice to exchange ideas internationally here. I have learned great tips and tricks here and of course a variety of models that differ in kits and self-builds. There is also something for everyone, whether it is highly elaborate or just simple. Whether professional or beginner. But what I can see here is the love for this type of model building. It is true that many spectators say nothing and just look. There are certainly many reasons for this. But I am a cheerful person and find that if I discover a model and I like it, I write the builder a nice comment or try to help if I can. I would like to see more people leave a comment, whether positive or not. But it should always be done with respect.
I have met a lot of great and nice modelers here on the forum and would like to encourage everyone else who doesn't post as much to do more, just get in touch. Since I don't speak English very well and work a lot with translators, I can only say that I am sooo glad that they exist. Otherwise I would be lost here.
So come on guys, get in touch, have courage! Because I'm doing it too, even though I'm a real beginner.

Gunther, Either you have a great translator program or are too modest about your language skills. You write like English is your native language.

My wife worries I don't shut up once I get started. I can tell you one thing that stands out is the wealth of experience these members seem to have. I enjoy building but I feel like an amoeba compared to some of these members. I'm starting my biggest build ever. The 1:60 scale Vasa from Mantua. It's an older kit I bought over 20 years ago and just started. The keel and bulkheads were a snap. I then built the transom and am ready to start planking. The problem I'm having is the instructions were written by Someone who assumed the builder was clairvoyant and would know what needed to be done with almost zero detail. I've stopped the work temporarily and am doing a deep dive into others who have build the same kit in hopes that photos of their work will help guide me. I have no doubt I'm a good enough builder, it's just that I like better instructions so I don't veer off course too far and have to back track too often. (see, my wife was right!)

my thought is what is the other 20,900 members looking for? granted there are 137,561 posts made by 21,900 members. an extremely small % and what % is just a simple comment?

so 20,900 are NOT sharing ideas, insights, techniques, and stories or sharing their passion, exchange knowledge, and support one another which according to the above statement is the heart and soul of the forum.

out of the 100 making 284,482 posts how many are NOT information on model ship building and just comments?

the stark reality is a very small handful of members are actually providing useful information on the hobby of model ship building. After you weed out the comments by the top 100 what do you have left?

I'm a new member and I am posting some and have started my build thread on the Vasa I just started. I was wondering. How do you create a post to show some of your previous builds so people can see kits you've built and you can give them hints if they are building the same kits?
