Hi Jan. I just read about the accident with the model. I feel for you, it is a pity not everyone shares the emotional value we attach to our models.
You are doing a great job in restoring the damaged work.

Good morning Jan. That is an impressive major repair. This goes out of the "redo" category and it certainly works. Cheers Grant
Hi Grant. Thank you. I did the interior repair with pieces of Mahogany, I’m reserving the kit’s remaining Walnut for the Canopy rebuild.
I agree with Grant: a impressive repair. It’s more in the category ‘Restoration during New-Build’. My respect.
Regards, Peter
Hi Peter, I like that thought. “Restoration” sounds a lot better than “Re-Do”.

Hi Herman. Indeed, I think it would have not impacted my emotions as much had the hull not been placed back on the shelf as if nothing had occurred. Next time instead of “Kinderproofing” I need to “Adultproof” my shipyard work area.

THE RESTORATION CONTINUES :rolleyes::rolleyes:

The imagineering process.

1) Salvage as much as possible of the canopy. Clean up all the old glue joints.
2) Make new "legs" for the canopy
3) Drill 0.6mm holes in the tops of the "legs" and add pins (bottom right)
3) Drill five 0.7mm holes on the underside of both sides of the canopy top to hold the "legs"(top left)

4) Add a 1.5 X 12mm piece as a backboard to align the "legs" and to help hold them in place
5) Glue the ten "legs" in place and wait a couple of hours for the glue to set

6) Test fit the "NEW/OLD"canopy

It looks as if your repair pays dividends. Hopefully, when all is said and done, the damage and subsequent repairs will not be visible for the untrained and uneducated eye.

It appears that you have someone standing guard in the background. Or maybe sitting.

The Re-Do continues.

Canopy work is almost complete. I've finished the aft portion but I'm holding off on the bow portion until I complete adding the odd bits and pieces on the main deck.

It's a slow process, my vision isn't back to my "normal" yet and yesterday was a banner day. Flue shot in the left arm and Covid Booster in the right arm. Yup, no comments required. Besides my hair hurts this morning

Good morning Jan. Your WB is looking beautiful. Well done on a major repair. Bravo Cheers Grant

‘Tis the Season.

I have to confess that between buttoning things up outside for the Winter and the start of the holiday decorations there has been little time for shipbuilding. I’ve managed to sign in to the forum at odd times trying to keep up with some of the logs, BUT…..

Back to the WB.

With an odd moment here and there a bit more progress in the main deck area.

The repair components are a combination of Walnut and Mahogany pieces. Like the 16th century Dutch shipwrights it’s a mix and match of materials about the right size. (Actually it’s because I’ve buggered up much to much of the kits material:rolleyes:)

"Tis the season, lots of Holiday activity and decorating. Not much time for ship building.

But with a moment here and there, the little things get done.

Working on the galleon I noticed that my rebuild of the bow area wasn't as symmetrical as before. But I think I managed to tweak things enough to hide that fault.

I have to invoke the "four foot" rule. It is what it is :rolleyes:
