Willem Barentsz by Kolderstok AD 1596

Good morning Jan. I had to play a little catch up. You can be really pleased with the repairs, well more like a rebuild of the bow. She is looking great. Cheers Grant
Yup, I’m happy with the outcome.
The little “Tsunami “ will be here again this weekend for Holiday festivities. All hulls in progress have been stored in a safe place. Not taking any chances of a repeat event.

“Tsunami “ Update.

We survived the Holiday celebration visit by the Tsunami, only two tree ornaments lost. BUT the weekend storm has caused massive problems. We‘ve been on backup power since early yesterday morning, wireless service is up-down-up. The winds were gusting at 50 or more mph and there is debris everywhere. The total rainfall was over four inches. Two magnificent pine trees at the entrance to our development are down and blocking the road. We have no estimate as to when they will be removed. With the number of electrical outages (37,000 plus in our county) the power company is having a hard time getting it’s customers back on line.

We are fortunate not to have any damage.

Best of luck & glad to hear everything’s OK. I remember when the remnants of Hurricane Ike blew through in ‘08… we were without power for two weeks. We too had back-up power, but I think we spent more in fuel than the value of the food we saved. It was a comfort though just to have the lights on and be able to cook.

Good morning Jan. Hectic. Glad you guys all safe. Cheers Grant

Due to some incredibly hard work by local utility crews we are back in the civilized world. All utilities were restored at 11PM last night. Not easy work. Three utility poles were replaced then all the wires transferred

It was quite the light show, blue lights, red lights, white lights and yellow. Our Sun room faces in that direction and all the activity was about 100 or so feet away.

Indeed, we have 10 KW for backup power. It was installed two weeks before the major ice storm of 1998. It ran for 104 hours during that event.

I often tease the Admiral about the generator. Her critically required circuits were the well pump, furnace and an outlet for her hairdryer.

Just found an interesting bit in the local paper. This will give you guys a hint at the scope of the storm damage. This is just the Southern part of the state.

“At the end of Tuesday, CMP President Joe Purington said the company had more than 1,175 line and tree crews working to restore power. That is more than following the 1998 Ice Storm, when there were 1,048 line and tree crews working at peak of the restoration “

Our part of the mess

Cold, wet and windy outside so a good day to spend time in the shipyard.

Spent time doing some of the odd little bits.

Quite the adventure for someone with big bumbly fingers. :D

I kept putting off doing this little bit, but I tackled it today.

I sanded the uprights down to thickness of about 3.5mm to get a better fit in front of the canopy.

Good afternoon Jan. Hope you guys are all having a wonderful Christmas. Cheers Grant

Hi Grant,

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

We’re enjoying ours. It’s the first time in quite awhile that there isn’t any snow on the ground. Last weekends storm dropped 4.2 inches of rain. The common calculation is that one inch of rain equals ten inches of snow. So if we did the math we would have  of snow.

I had to catch up a bit Jan, but i am glad that you're safe, and that the restoration of your bowsection turns out so good.
