LA VOLAGE sezione prodiera e poppiera scala 1/24 [COMPLETED BUILD]

Any idea when ANCRE will publish this monography? Looks very interesting. Fantastic workmanship.
Credo anno nuovo
I believe new year
I was recently in contact with my friend Didier Berti from ancre.
He mentioned, that the publishing of the Monographie of the La Volage is planned for November 2020, so in only 4 months. I guess, that the english version will be published for the same time like the french one.....
Michele:
Your stern decoration is looking great, especially very accurate and complicate work because the parts are very thin - GREAT

All right, so Didier Berti confirmed you for the end of November, that was the date set at the beginning. :)

Hello the construction site is finished. Below the two sections are shown with a provisional base just to be able to compare them side by side.

I've only one word to say, wow!!
I would be interested to hear details how you make the appealing shadowing / antique look at your carvings. I guess it take more than just applying bitumen and polishing with a cloth?
I would also be interested to hear what kind of final finish you give your models? (I'm in doubt what I should use when I come to that. I have noticed many seems to apply wipe on poly but I wonder if the hard surface would not crack after some years. I wonder if teak oil could be good)

In the meantime, thanks for the compliments.
As for the treatment I do, it is actually not easy as the bitumen tends to darken the wood a lot. For this reason I first apply a coat of shellac, so that it absorbs less, and I have more time to remove the excess bitumen, with a cloth or sponges. Then, based on the effect I want to give, I decide whether to pass the bitumen further. Once dry I give another coat of shellac. If I don't like the shiny effect, I give it a light pass with a very fine wool. I've never used oils, but as far as I know they tend to ruin the wood over time.
