These horseshoe shaped parts glue together and will fit here. 
Belt sanders make things much easier. I think it beveled it quickly and nicely. 
Putting a curve on the aft piece. 
I painted the hull black before adding the final planking because I didn’t want the white wood to show if there were small cracks between the planks. 
Attaching the curved aft part. It looks like I’ll have to trim a bit. 
I’m butchering my second layer of planks. I’ve never worked on a hull that has the decks so severely curved. The walnut planks bend easily horizontally, but not so much vertically. 
I cut the planks down to 2.1 inches long for planking the area above and below the gun ports. That way I was able to just tilt each plank a tiny bit instead of trying to bend long ones edge wise.
I’ll try that on the other side.

The top of the hull has a large curve and the decks are curved as well. A cannon ball would roll back and forth like those balls on strings that smack each other and go back and forth interminably. I resorted to Jodie’s method of making shorter planks. I also found I could bend them a bit vertically using titebond and an iron. My first experience with second layer. They have to be spot on if I don’t paint over them. I have gotten better after finding an old iron. Just don’t tell the Admiral. She might get the idea of me ironing my own laundry!

Ironing makes the planks smoother. I’m using an old iron my Admiral was going to throw away. 
From the bow. 
I had to use clamps to squeeze this piece of captain’s cabin base together. 
I just realized that the entrance to the captains quarters is two inches to far back. It’s hard to follow the ZHL instructions sometimes.
