I have a question general in nature, although I will be applying it to my present ship build, namely, Caldercraft's Mary Rose. Trying to get the 5mm thick lower deck where it belongs is daunting to say the least--I'm afraid I'll break the frames. What I'm thinking of doing is to cut it in half length-wise, thus making it easier to install. My concern is--will this hurt the overall strength of the framing? Any guidance in this area would be greatly appreciated.
 
I'm about as handy with a smart phone and a computer as my 7 month old granddaughter--but thank you so much for your input.
 
Well, it took me a solid hour, but I got that 5mm lower deck into its proper position. In comparison, the rest of the Mary Rose framing will be relatively easy (I hope). I sent the Mary Rose Trust an email asking them how long the deck planks and the hull planks are, as the Caldercraft plans do not specify. If anyone out there knows the answer, I would greatly appreciate it.

Well I conquered the 5mm lower deck, however-->now I'm faced with the 0.8mm main deck. How in the world does one manipulate that thing to its proper location on top of the deck beams without breaking it in half?! Should I wet it first, like one does with planks so they will bend better at the bow? I am in dire need of help here.

Try looking online for build logs. There are probably a few for that ship. This website has a lot, also modelshipbuilder.com and general Google searches. I refer to other people’s build logs daily.

I am building the same model, the build log is on here - look in 'Wooden Kits'.

Hi. Select the 'Forums' tab.
You will see a section called 'SoS Build Logs'
Select the header 'SoS Build Logs from Kits - Wood
Regarding your question around the main deck I planked mine in two halves - see post #14 in my log.

Hi--I selected the "forums" tab and I did not see a section called "SoS Build Logs"--being new to this website, I'm probably doing something wrong without realizing it.
 
In case you feel like venturing into the world of posting images and such (you don't have to have a phone to do so), here is a link on "how-to's" that might be of some help.


BTW, I never use a phone to take pics and upload to this site - way too aggravating to me. I am old school with a normal basic point and shoot camera, then download the pics from the camera into my computer (file folder) then upload a pic or two from that file folder to the site.
 
I tried scrolling down in the "forums" tab and nothing happened--the new guy on the block is typically clueless.

Hello A.L. from Kenosha! I'm just down the way in Wadsworth/Gurnee. I'm just as new as you seem to be so I'm of no help with your build. In fact my own effort has recently run aground. But I wanted to at least say 'hey.'
Oh, and I have an eight month old grandson - aren't they awesome!

Grandkids are awesome, I have 5. Welcome, I'm fairly new as well. Though looks like I'm much more fresh than you are. What is the build you have on hold? Hopefully you soon get afloat.
