SYNOPSIS:

In May 1781 Rochambeau wrote to the Comte de Grasse, Commander-in-Chief of the West Indian Fleet: "In the very serious crisis in which America finds itself at the moment, the arrival of Monsieur le Comte de Grasse would save the situation". On June 11, he writes again "I do not hide from you that the Americans are at the end of their resources ... I am convinced that you will bring us naval superiority but I cannot repeat too often to take the troops and the money too. … ”. Responding to this cry for help, de Grasse, aboard his flagship, the City of Paris decides to concentrate its fleet and the troops embarked in the West Indies in the Chesapeake Bay and to surround Yorktown. This victorious strategy gave independence to the United States allowing the French navy to forget the disasters of the Seven Years' War.

This 480-page book aims to bring together maritime history and shipbuilding by first studying maritime strategy and tactics. The second part is presented as a maritime biography of the ships and frigates which distinguished themselves in this conflict by publishing as many original documents as possible.

20 frigates and 35 vessels are thus the subject of a special study, thus making it possible to renew traditional maritime history.

I asked Didier about a english translation. There is no plan for a translation at the moment. The translations of the other monographies are in the focus.
Yes - he told me once, that the translation of 480 pages would take too long and would be very very expensive for him - so only when people are asking more and more, that he knows, that there is really a market for an english copy.

Actual Translations into english:

The next monographs which will be available in english will be the
La Machine à curer les ports - the Harbour dredger by Gérard Delacroix - will be available in english mid of March
LA COMPAGNIE DES INDES LE BOULLONGNE: 1759 - will be available in english end of March

The Boullongne is the last missing monograph in our series of Planset reviews here in SOS - all other plansets published by ancre you can find in reviews here in our forum - and I guess I will be able to close this gap during this week......

Don - English version......... the dredge drawings are international, English or French no difference :) I do not have nothing in common with the English version of the book ROTF.

YOU ARE VERY CORRECT KRIS THE DWGS PLUS ESPECIALLY PLUS YOUR INSTRUCTIONS AR GOOD, VERY GOOD, NOW ONE QUICK QUESTION AT THIS TIME REVIEWING ALL INSTRUCTIONS FROM YOU THE LATEST ARE WHAT YOU POSTED ON SOS AM I CORRECT. GOD BLESS STAY SAFE YOU AND YOURS DON

The drawings are international (and usually no text in the ancre publications), but is often interesting to read the history and also some information of details are given in the text.
And additional very positiv: If you have an older french version, you can buy / order from ancre only the english booklet for low price, so no need to buy the complete monograph

For example:

New price for the complete monograph of the dredger is 59 Euros, the booklet only you get for 15 Euros
