Hms terror,almost done.

This is so COOL! A few months back I read Michael Palin's book Erebus. As you probably know the Terror was a sister ship.
It was a great, if tragic read. You did a terrific job on your build! Thanks for posting it here.

I agree with Brian. That is VERY nice and looks like you have been building ships all along - Wow. May I suggest that you do furled sails. That is where the sails are loosely or tightly wrapped up on the Yards. All the sails management rigging is still there though. When this is done, then the sails will not hide all the nice rigging.
Looks like you a few more yards to mount too.

Yes. You can wet them. On my other ships I found that the sail fabric was quite thick and I cut mostly in half so as the furles would not be so thick. I damped mine w water once I got them on the yard and took a probe and pulled on some of the sail to give it some sagging appearance mostly towards the center.

furled sails look best when you use only half the size of the original sail and the material is cut in a "lazy" arc shape so that the shape starts thinly at the ends of the yard and gradually becomes thicker as it nears the mast center line. this avoids the " cigar tube " look that is not how sails were furled. Sails were furled to the fore of the yard. the leeches were drawn up to the end of the yard, and the bunts to the center and mast area of the yard. another option is to have the sails semi-furled, using the leech and bunt lines to draw the sail up to the yard, but not made fast to the yard.

I agree 100% with Shipahoy - I could not have said it better !!!

Thanks guys, I need to search photos of furled sails to get the right look i'm going for and yes the sails need to be reduced in size, it's going to be a scary venture for sure. Thanks again.

WE have some topics discussing the possibilities and ways of furling sails. please take a look:
