That being said, who knows if the current Victory at Portsmouth is rigged anything like the original? And your first try at it looks much better than my first efforts.
Good afternoon Vic- I gave up trying the “documented ” way and went with the picture you showed. I found my pet hate today- fitting futtock shrouds....decided enough is enough and having a quiet lunch with Admiral and first officers (Kids) on the beach. One of those days

What kinds of problems did you have with the futtock shrouds? I remember going through several iterations of methods of fitting them. My first ship had them go through the regular shrouds, sheave together to form one line, and attach to the deck eyelet. The next ship had them attach to the shrouds at a bar going horizontally across the upper part of the shrouds. The first method looked cool but probably wouldn't be accurate for your ship. The firs is a model and the second is the current iteration.

Good afternoon. As discussed with Vic, I’m attempting the top mast futtock shrouds in despair.... this site is for my good and at time pretty sad attempts at building the Victory.
I do know by fitting some of the parts needed without the mast installed will be way easier on the main and foremasts.
Here we go
This is how the are supposed to go :
My morning of fighting with this Lady..
I firstly measured the ratlines spacing per instructions to ensure correct placement of the futtock strake. I used 0.2mm to lash it to shrouds.
Then the issues...self explanatory. The red arrow below I accidentally cut the top lashing of the stern shroud. Blue arrow I couldn’t get the lower strops(for better word) in line and all the whippings just came out untidy.
And to finish of an amazing morning of rigging it pulls the shroud slightly out...I was super careful to get the tension correct...clearly not.
I guess we got to have these days. Funnily looks rather good when looking at it from a whole...ship building.

Have checked out the HMS Victory by Manfred Burkert? The search would be victory and Cirdan. Cirdan is Helmut who shared this incredible scratch built ship with us. I think there’s also a link to a German site that includes more pix. Examples:
BTW. It took Manfred 40 years to build his Victory. I’d be 113 if I started now before finishing it!
Good morning Vic. I have seen this of his model. It is simply out of this world. A special individual and modeler for sure and he certainly deserves all the accolades he received and some more.

I figured you had seen it. I knew he had done a lot of research on it, but based on what I’ve seen of you so far, I guessed that you might have seen it. Happy Easter. It’s still Sunday here (barely).
Good morning. While I was showing all my blunders yesterday I thought I would share another- my thread I use for the shrouds is from Mantua and it “frays” baldly when working with it. I run a flame through after working on an area e.g. fitting futtock strake and this works wonders.
Anyway yesterday-as I said was one of those mornings and I spilt candle wax on my Mizzen crowsnest. Had to break the stern most strop and using a small blade and some 800 grit sand paper sticks To work it off. Repaired- you can see the futtock shroud strops connected to the dead eyes- got these more in line (not 100%) but better than the starboard side.
Off to Kirstenbosch gardens today with family and then Wilderness (business) for a few days.Two of the most beautiful places. Enjoy your modeling. Cheers Grant

Yes my friend - some days are like that - we should just stay away from the shipyard. Sometimes a bit of distance is all that is called for to see things in a brand new light. Enjoy your few days in the Wilderness.
