HMS Victory Mantua 1:78 (first build) by Grant Tyler

Good morning. I redid the anchor tackle. Made a hook. I used @Thomas Marocke diagram as I could not get the hook looking good around the block as shown by @Walterone. My “metal work” needs loads of work and some tools to assist.. The sling and messenger lines will be connected when I fit the anchors later. Cheers Grant.

Looks very real.

Now that that's done let's talk about your anchor cable... ROTF. PM me your home address and I'll send you proper cables from the Kattner Ropeworks.
Good morning “ Kattner Rope works.” The cost of getting those here most definitely outweighs the advantage of not using the Mantua “sack” thread provided.. Thanks Paul.

Good morning- Anchors packed away for a while and back to standing rigging on Mizzen.

Mizzen stays :

Seized and made a rat ( Grants Just don’t come out tidy- at least will be consistent through the ship;)) tried two different techniques-1: used small dowel, drilled center hole and fitted onto stay, shaped and then seized, 2: seized line wound back and forth to create mouse. Both similar outcome. Won’t give up on these tho).

The stays will be place over the seized shrouds - apologies the photo above shows them above the shrouds.

The Mizzen sliding back stays and back stays:

The sliding back stays : a hook was made to fit to the channel and threaded through 2 5mm double sheave blocks. There are 2 back stays and these are fitted through the 3mm dead eyes onto the smaller channel. The stern most back stay is not supposed to go through a dead eye but rather through a fixed eye and lashing. As shown by red arrow in picture below. Sadly, as with many aspect of my build, I progressed too far with the Mantua instructions and I will not be changing this.

The top mast stay and top gallant stay still to be made- these will be made from 0.5mm ropes.

Cheers Grant

A ropewalk is a "must have" tool for a modeler of your level Grant :)
Good morning Walter. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I am learning so much at present and right now just trying to understand these beautiful ships and get some basic techniques reasonably done. In the future I will progress to this I am sure- in mean time I just try and find some good quality ropes to purchase. Cheers Grant

Good afternoon.

My Mizzen standing rigging progress on “Grants Victory” - it’s not a Mantua anymore way too many changes and additions and is nothing close to the historic authenticity of this majestic vessel. So we will call it Grants Victory :D:D.

Much trial and error in learning how to rig and learning about the principles of how these ships were actually rigged and what goes where. Hopefully the Main and foremast will be greatly improved.

I would like to thank all of you for your encouragement, likes and especially those wise words of advice and help. Massively appreciated.

Some pictures which are not close ups. Lots of WIP so loose ends, ropes not tied off, Main mast and Foremast not seated, stays and back stays not tensioned etc etc. Just for you guys to see “Grants Victory “ Those futtock staves and mouse’s.....EishCautious

PS- sorry Paul @dockattner still using bubble wrap ROTF.
