A new carving project - a lion figurehead of the ship la Belle Poule

Hello dear friends
In the last few days I have been spending time with my family in a hotel in the north of the country - a lot of pool and also a trip in an SUV/Raiser.

If you think that I am not thinking about the hobby and carving the lion, you are wrong, I searched for several days for a lion doll to use as a model, and after a few days I found it.

I wish all of us pleasant and enjoyable summer holidays

good evening dear friends
Today at noon we returned from vacation and after we arranged the luggage and cooked food for the family, I sat down to work.
I went back to carving the lion figure, initially spending long minutes studying the facial features and then transferring them to the block of wood.

I focused on the nose area and the eyes and cheekbones. I am in the middle of a very complex process that requires delicacy in the process of removing the wood.
After feeling that it was time to take a break from working on the lion face I decided to worked on the elliptic panel that later states the coat of arms of the royal house.
As I said before this is a long and complex process and I am only at the beginning.
I am attaching photos of the figure

Thanks to all the friends who are interested in my work, for the likes and smileys, it warms the heart ❤️ :)

Dear Mirek, thank you very much for the beautiful words, it warms my heart. in appreciation

Hallo my friend,
it is real good learning way to use a "real" lion (your toy) to understand the 3D-face of such a figurine.

The contemporary figurehead lions had much more exaggerated or overdone faces and hairs the real lions

I would like to show you the comparison made once by Willi alias @schifferlbauer

thanks Dear friend for the pictures and the guidance Thumbsup
I will try to exaggerate :D

Dear Shota. It looks as if you and your family really enjoyed your little break. That pool looks so good and inviting! I really like what you are now doing with your lion and what Uwe has said it is very true. It's like the masks that the ancient Greek actors used to wear which would show the different emotions through facial features. Go for it! Thumbsup

Shota, exciting log about woodcarving, I'll follow, BDW, I'll will also try with the Rattlesnake figure, I'll show what I've done so far soon, regards Knut-

good evening dear friends
Today I sat down to continue my carving project, today I moved on to carving the lion's tail and also started to give the area of the lion's mane fine engravings to give a hair texture.
I started the tail by drawing with a 0.4 millimeter pencil, then I started to engrave the outline of the tail.

Later I started to carve wood to give the contours of the thigh, belly and back of the lion (there is more work to get to the final result).

I continued carving the tail from the butt to the small mane at the end of the tail.
I will let you get an impression of the photos documenting the process and the intermediate result.

The amount of photos shows my enthusiasm from the result, so far:D:DROTF
You are making solid progress on the lion's tail. You have defined the outerlines of the tail well and the contours are coming along nicely. Keep it slow and steady and you will succeed!
