This is the build of the HMS Mercury lasercut kit, it will be build in full color.
Please bare with me because i`m a slow builder and its not an easy ship.;)
What worries me the most is the rigging, i`m a total newby. We`ll see, it is still a long way from now.

Hallo jos, a nice challenge as the first cardboard model.......I will follow the log
BTW: at the web-site „Karton-im-wind“ you can find a German language building log......maybe it is helping

Hoi, @ Uwek thanks for the link.
the foto`s bring you to the point where i`m now with the build.
Btw. i`m also building the HMS Enterprise, but she will be like after the refit of 1782. I was thinking of a separate buildlog, will see.:)

Looking good. I too will be following your build. Also I would start a new log for the Enterprise.

I agree here completely with Bob....... so if you have time it would be very good and interesting if you could show us both in seperate building logs.....great to have you here on board.

That makes for easy planking. Get first planking smooth and no second planking. Saves over 100 hours verse wood models. Looks like it will be pretty strong also,

Hoi , I will do a seperate log of the HMS Enterprize, she is the same but also different. o_O
@ Gary actually there will be 3 layers of planking, the first is to stabilize the frame.
But first step is building the cabin walls and upper side wall.
This foto are the parts of the captains dayroom.

The 2nd level of planking in wood goes over the first layer and completely covers the first. It is not different levels in the structure that the second planking means. Thus, if there was a third planking, it would go over the second and only the thirtd layer would be visible. Soprry for the confusion in terminology.

Hoi Jos,

Really nice and very interesting. I never knew that you can build such beautifull detailed models from paper. I will be following your build.

Vrgr Maarten

Hoi,
Thanks Maarten, there are no limits to paperbuilds, i will put in a few foto`s of buils that i finished.
What i really mis are some Dutch ships like Batavia and Zeven provincien.
I love your Friesland, wish it was also in paper.
Groetjes Jos.

This is realy looking good. I think the big advantage is that the supplier can prepare within the print a very accurate painting in the correct scale. So the interior is looking realy realistic.......great to see

The Shipyard laser cut models are quite good, but not as forgiving as wood. You can’t sand off mistakes or do any drilling into card stock.

Hoi Jos,

Beautiful. There is a dutch ship from shipyard, the papagean. This is a Dutch pinas.

Vrgr Maarten
