Mamoli Royal Louis 1780 [COMPLETED BUILD]

I started building the Royal Louis 1780, a kit by Mamoli. The model is already partly finished, as I bought it from the family of the original builder (who passed away). For the past few ships, I've recorded only a video-log of the process and put it on YouTube. This time, I also made pictures to share here. Enjoy!

If you don't want to sand the hull you can paint it or add some sappelli or other 0,5mm veneer. I know your finishing your oil paints but swiching to acrylic ones would save you some details of wood. For my taste yours are to glossy, but that's only my opinion. Good luck with your build
 
Congratulations on such an acquisition.It's a pity, of course, the former owner.I wish you to finish the model.You can end up with a fine example of a French battleship.That's how you can change the set from Mamoli.I have already shown this model once, made by a Russian modeler based on a set.

thanks! For me, particularly the red is also too glossy. The blue and gold are okay, but red is in my face now. I'm indeed considering my paint. So far (ahum, 30 years) I've been using humbrol and revell paint. They're ok, but I've always thought I could get a better finish. Also, I'm pretty bad at painting, probably. Maybe I should experiment a bit

thanks for the inspiration! I also follow a Ukranian lady on YouTube, and she builds beautiful stuff - also a source of inspiration. I'll consider the darker color scheme!

I would do something also on the hull - and maybe also on the "nail"-pattern on the wales
What we see now are the incorrect nails to fix the planks to the false bulkheads
The planks on a real ship were fixed to real frames - so the pattern was looking completely different

UWEK, you are very observant. You kind of need another board to nail into. Let the other guy hold the nail and i will swing! My house is not built with the quality of 400-year-old ships, and I know it will not float! Bye the way your forum on rigging was straight up. I have only delved into plastic models and have already figured lots of ways to make things easier. My new ship is wood but i have to finish what i started. Also, is a ratline block a "friction" block? I am talking deadeyes. I cannot see a pulley or simulated pulley inside. I would also like to find your rigging forum on tying blocks. I think it was you or Justin from Minnesota I.E. Darivs Architectris" latin something. He has huge knowledge on ships also. ok bye bye needs food or drink, or both. happy modeling five hours on this sight because i can!
 
Hi fellow builders, I could use some advice. I decided to attempt cleaning the hull of the Royal Louis. It was just too smudgy, and that annoyed me. By now, I carefully sanded one side (left) of the hull, and it does clean up a fair bit. But not enough to my liking. Also, I doubt whether I can get it up to standard: much of the dark filler went into cracks, and I probably can't get it out (plus I'm lazy). The right side of the ship is not yet sanded, but it has - besides the dark filler - a few wooden strips that are a different color than the rest of the hull. I added some pictures so that you can see where I'm at.

Basically, I think it's better to paint or stain the hull. My questions for you are: do you agree? If so, what color should I paint it? I'd like to use something other than white. Curious to hear you ideas!
