Mamoli Royal Louis 1780 [COMPLETED BUILD]

Personally, I prefer stain. But you could also cut some different shades of paper and tape to the hull to find what you like.
Personally, I prefer to paint the hull as being far more realistic. This goes also for the hull below the waterline. I will either paint or copper plate there. Again, that is my personal choice.

Hi fellow builders, I could use some advice. I decided to attempt cleaning the hull of the Royal Louis. It was just too smudgy, and that annoyed me. By now, I carefully sanded one side (left) of the hull, and it does clean up a fair bit. But not enough to my liking. Also, I doubt whether I can get it up to standard: much of the dark filler went into cracks, and I probably can't get it out (plus I'm lazy). The right side of the ship is not yet sanded, but it has - besides the dark filler - a few wooden strips that are a different color than the rest of the hull. I added some pictures so that you can see where I'm at.

Basically, I think it's better to paint or stain the hull. My questions for you are: do you agree? If so, what color should I paint it? I'd like to use something other than white. Curious to hear you ideas!
