Revell Cutty Sark 1:96 with 3D printed modifications

Here we are, 6 months on, where did that time go!

A brief update - I have finally got around to putting some of the items I created for the CS on Ebay, beginning with the winches, bilge pump and tiny hand pump. Next up will be the boats, complete with skids, I'll post an ebay link when done.

These objects can usually be scaled up without problems, less the case for scaling down, and location lugs can be changed, omitted etc to suit. Drop me a line if interested.

In other news, I'm still messing around, learning other model & craft technologies and techniques, such as casting, sculpting, 3D scanning and whatnot, as part of an ever-broadening interest in art and crafts. Hopefully this will crystallise into progressing one or two models before too much longer!

Very good work! I am working several builds now other than the CS, the schooner yacht America set as she crossed the Atlantic, the Atlantic schooner yacht and the Sea Witch. The Cutty Sark wil be my final project where I will be correcting some of the major defects the Steve of the bow suit, the knight heads and the missing chain gammoning, reworking the spars, etc.

All of my projects use vintage plastic kits, correcting missing features and incorporating wood ship model techniques and rigging along with fabricated metal items and wood blocks, etc. Having a jot of fun, highlighted by bouts of sheers frustration. Plan on getting started with 3D scanning, CAD design and resin printing later on this I will be following show for additional inside s summer.
 
I would be interested in picking up one of your CS parts- the pumps and winches. Give me some specifics on where, when and how. Thanks!

This is my downfall, I always have too many projects on the go, from models to crafts to household stuff and gardening. But I doubt I’ll change now! If I started the Revell Cutty Sark again I would lower the deck by about 5mm, as it’s too high.That would also create the room to correct the bowsprit and add gammoning. By the time I realised that the deck height was the fundamental issue I was too far along to have the heart to start again. Though to be honest, if I ever did start again I’d just finish the 3D hull I started way back and probably rescale it to 1:72, as the only thing from the kit on my build is in fact the hull. Learning CAD is like everything else, great fun interspersed with bouts of utter frustration, but there’s loads of tutorial info on the web. While the tech for home printing is now quite mature, I’m not sure the same is true for scanning. I sold my budget (but still quite expensive) scanner after 6 months as it couldn’t give me the detail I needed.
