Make your rope on a rope walk

This is very helpful. Thank you for the tutorial, especially the idea of baking the rope to set it permanently. I’ve not heard of that before and it seems to have great promise.

I'd make for my rope walk a strand splitter / cone, or what the name of this part is. Yes I have a 3D printer now. And I want to share it with you here.

I used these bearings

U623ZZ 3x12x4mm and M3 bolts and nuts

The part is hanging on a cable way above the rope walk and because of the gears it moves perfect.
There are 2 parts to print and you can choose out 2 bearing holders, 1 long and 1 short. You can adjust them if you like by cutting the length. You can download it here for free.

Don't look at the print quality of the cone, I was also surprised about the lines in ti. The both screw of the z-axis and the extruder weren't tighten enough. My mistake after cleaning the machine. The second part (the holder) is gone better.

Hello everyone
I saw this post and thought I would show off my Super Over Engineered rope walk/earphone/headphone cable maker.
A few years back I built this for making earphone and headphone cables.
Built with all hardened steel gears one way needle bearings and just for fun or overkill, thrust bearings.
This happens when you have too much extra time.

A few people know I bought a 3D printer and that I like to make tools.
So I started to design a rope walk and print this. Buy parts and build it together to a functional machine.
This is the machine:

It works on 12 V and you can make cable or hawser rope with it. (LH or RH rope) the max. turning speed is 3000. And max. 4 strands and core rope if necessary.

If you like the machine, you send me a pm. This one is on sell and I will make more if there is interest in it. No business just a few to help you out and the price is just material and cost.

The travelling cone with grooves. Sometimes termed "top" or "traveller". Really only necessary with long rope lengths, and possibly for cable with a central core strand.
That's possible because there are a lot of ways to make ropes and the quality of the ropes can cover a wide area of quality.

This rope machine is from the Musée de la Marine

The rope machine I use is having a traveller or swivel.
With the rope machine I build you can control the flexibility of the rope. The more weight, the more rigid the rope will be and also the swivel is a regulator for the tension and the number of turns. But you are free to use it without. It gives me and a lot of others who also use it a proven great result. The ropes I make are between 2 and 4 meters.

I love this article. Excellent instructions. I keep coming back to it and I learn something new everytime.
Job well done, Stephan!!!Thumbs-Up:)
