Well I simply could not turn down the opportunity to build another one of my favorite classic race cars in 1:8 scale.
After building the Lotus 72, I know what to expect from a Pocher kit. And that’s quality and due diligence on research and design. In fact they actually scanned a 917 chassis with a lazer to get everything right!
If you don’t know the history of the Porsche 917, I recommend you get online, read and watch videos of this legendary race car built by Porsche to compete with Ferrari. It has a flat 12 cylinder engine, and that put out serious horsepower, capable of going approximately 246 miles an hour at LeMans. The turbo version engine had over 1,000 hp and could accelerate from a stop to 60 in about 2.6 seconds!
This model is based on the exact car (917K), which is the short tail version, that Derek Bell and Jo Siffert drove at the 1000km Monza. It has the vertical stabilizers that helped with stability at high speed. And over 200mph is high speed!
Anyway, I encourage you to watch videos of it at the track so you can hear the music the flat 12 makes!

Another huge box…
