Soleil Royal ZHL kit 1:90 Scale [COMPLETED BUILD]

This is a nice model, but did we ever get an answer as to why these kits have the same plans as other manufacturers?
Hi Vossy thanks for stopping in. I don't think so but that's between the manufacture's. I don't want to start another debate about it. I liked the model, it was priced right for me and I like to try other things that are available

A guick update. I have been working on the gun ports and mounts. This has been slow, needed a lot of fitting. I had to cut material off the back of the upper ports and add it to the front to get them to fit. The middle line I needed to cut one bulkhead to get support in. The lower line is fitting up ok. It's a little time consuming gluing up these supports but in the end the ports are going to line up nicely.
Thanks for watching.

Interesting. most ports normally line up eitherside of a bulkheadwith. Expains the cannon false holders. Still better than cut your own ports like the san fill imho . Measuring and cutting an hoping there are all the same and in the right spot is a mega chore imho[/QUOTE
Yes I believe it will be quicker then measuring and cutting them out, and seeing the ports layed out is less stressful than hoping they line up.

Nice progress Mike, I would also like to build it, but I think the admiral thrown me out when she hears the prize jajajajajaja:cool::cool:, maybe I can convince her if I talk about the plastic vercie of heller UnsureUnsureUnsureUnsure

Thanks Willy. I hear the Heller kit is real nice:)

Been a little slow going in the shop, just planking away on the first layer. My initial plan was to build the ship right from the box but been thinking of some bashing. The kit is fine but I think with some help it could be very nice. If I make my own planks for second layer would 1mm thickness be ok without effecting other areas of the model? The planks with the kit are .5mm. If I start changing wood I can see this snowballing into changing decorations (they are cast) oh boy what to do. Sitting down in the shop I start thinking to much, this could get ugly.:p

G'day Mike
Hmmm..... I wouldn't change the 2nd planking to 1mm, because with the 1mm first planking and then your planking it would make the thickness of the planking 7 inches thick at the scale of 1:90. That's a bit too thick if you ask me. Even using the 0.5mm planks that makes them a bit over 5 inches thick at the scale. This size is livable, but 4 inches would be better, so if you do the 2nd planking with 0.25mm planks it would be ok.
The best solution would do only 1 player of planking with 1mm thickness, but at 1:90 scale that would be very very difficult job. This would make the scale planks to be about 3.5 inches think.
Just a thought
Greg
