Some time ago I bought the Victory from Ebay for what I thought was a good price. I then purchased some additional items from Woodysmodelworks.co.uk to hopefully make it more interesting.
After building the Blandford I wanted another POF kit and so tried to sell the Victory to help pay for my next build but didn't manage any offers
So here is my build of the Victory
It starts off similar to most POB kits the only difference from other kits is that the frames are not glued until the deck is fitted. This means that all the bulkheads are loose and can be fitted into the deck slots and then glued
This is not something I have seen before but looks to be a good way to build. The hull is then planked in the usual way.
The magazine suggests building liferafts and guns before this but they will be left for MUCH later
As usual comments and criticisms are all welcome
Andy

Good morning Andy. Enjoy this beautiful ship. Sasha (@Alexander74) built the same kit a short while ago with many modifications into what I think is one of the best Victory’s around. You have a great reference. Cheers Grant

Hello Andy,
the kit from DeAgostini is almost identical to the Altismia Trinidad kit from AL. In any case, the hull fits approximately. I bought the kit from DA 12 years ago and haven't gotten around to building it yet. This kit has its pitfalls. You will certainly notice this at one point or another. But I think it's very well realized and if you really build it to the end, you'll have a beautiful ship. The cannons, however, are not so nice. I would always replace them. But I'll stay with you and follow your progress with interest. This kit was also built in several German model building forums. There you can marvel at very nice models. If you like, I can send you the url.

So, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you and am now an enthusiastic fan.

Best regards

Thanks Günter
Yes the url would be very helpful thanks
I am sure that there will be something that will be useful
So far the build is going well but I am sure there will be something helpful

Did you notice the right side in the 3rd picture?... This may bother you a little bit.

Hey Andy,
here is the url you requested. Of course it is in German. But that's no longer a problem these days. Just translate it into English.
The special thing about this build report is that Bernd does it really well and makes this Victory one of the most beautiful completions of the kit I have ever seen. He really completes the build report. He even makes his own sails and has a few tricks up his sleeve. I was able to learn a lot from him.
I would be delighted if you could tell me whether you like Bernd's construction report as much as I do.

Best regards
Günter

Thanks Günter I will certainly have a look tonight
Good old Google Translate

Hello Andy,

Unfortunately, the problem is that if you don't sand the frames properly, you will always see the result of the planking. So always sand the frames well beforehand. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the sanding helps. You still have a chance of saving the floor planking if you sand the ribs really well so that the planks lie nicely. Looks great afterwards....

Günter

Hello Andy,

glad you took a look at the site. I think he built the HMS Victory very nicely. You can also make good use of his ideas.
I'm glad if I can help you. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to answer them.Thumbsup

Hello Andy

nice that you are continuing to work on your Victory. I think it's great that you've replaced the planks again. It gives you a good feeling when it looks nicer now. As I can see from the photos, you've planked it properly. I know it's a lot of work, but it's never a bad job. But always stay focused. For example, I also had to make my own experience. I rebuilt a sail sprit 35 times until it fitted exactly. So, I wish you a lot of patience and perseverance. If you have any questions, please get in touch. There are some great model builders here who will definitely help you.

Hi all
It seems a long time since I posted anything but there hasn't been much progress on Victory
The hull planking is slowly progressing and I have started lining the gunports but everything seems to be taking forever to finish. It is very sole destroying,I did consider double planking the hull and leaving it a natural finish rather than painting but after I have finished I think a sand and paint will suffice
As usual any comments or suggestions are welcome

Good morning. I agree the Victory colours are iconic and to me is a must on this ship. I remember with this build it is everything x100…Redface and can drive one nuts. When it is done it is really satisfying tho. Cheers Grant
