And what did you glue the toothpicks to, what did you cut them with and then polish them with? As I understand it, not flush with the boards, but so that the tips protruded a little?
А на что клеили зубочистки, чем срезали и чем потом шкурили, я так понял не в ровень с досками, а так чтобы немного выступали кончики?
Сейчас делаю подобное, на грушу березовые зубочисики, но пока не определился на что клеить их. И как лучше потом обрабатывать..

No glue. They are inserted dry with press fit. Some of them get loose during sanding, but I simply replace such and sand again.
I sand them flush to the surface with a regular sandpaper wrapped around flat wooden piece
