However everyone with their beautiful builds has kept me motivated to get it done. I'm also trying to sand the inside of the hull frames, but my method was VERY slow going. So, I've ordered a new sander which should be here around Thursday and hopefully that will get it done in a reasonable amount of time.

Try using a curved cabinet scraper for the interior and custom cut very short bits of dowel, various diameters, to use as sanding sticks.

Iv'e been working with sanding sticks and even a small battery power sander. I didn't think of the scraper idea. I'll give that a try. The new sander should be here Thursday. :) Thanks for the idea of the scraper !
 
Jeff, Keef, All, we seem to have a bit of a conundrum as to "directions vs reality".
I wanted to fit a few beams, knees, etc. at least as far as bow to #6 over forward platform to investigate how everything fits.
As I sourced parts, especially supplied carlings with notches, it became apparent that, while on Victors prototype build, instructions, etc., there are zero provisions for notched laminations, either side of beams to secure the supplied notched carlings that would be perpendicular.
In fact, trial fitting them it appears they are suppose to simply butt up between the beams.....not entirely correct.

Not entirely sure as to "work around", leaning toward slightly lengthening those carlings and notching beams for fitment which I suppose is better than three piece laminated beams.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Hi Tim,

First, we need to understand exactly what you are talking about. Are you talking about in step 87, or 93, or somewhere else and what part are you looking at? :)

65, 88. All the carlings on all the deck beams.
A few postings across builds talking about or showing all beams beings laminated with notches to accommodate carlings.
No laminations seem possible.

There is a note regarding lower deck and upon further checking carlings appear long so it appears you’re notching the beams.

Tim, I believe I know what you are referring to. All I can say at this point is that we have seen much worse in many kits than this and we may have to break out some additional modelling skills. However, as this is a VERY long way away for me, I really did not make a thorough examination and I could be missing something.

Well upon further review since the beams are not spaced exactly equidistance apart, the carlings are actually supplied long.
There is a note in the PDF while not specific it looks like we’ll be cutting notches in beams and trimming carlings to fit
Not a major catastrophe but my query more about mismatch between prototype build and kit, as well as a heads up.
Don’t know exactly where everybody is but looks like I am first down this road,

I believe you are the first of our group. I'm still working on the cant frames and hawse pieces and working on evening out the frames on the inside of the hull. :)

ok, it looks like I've got the cant frames figured out. I've now got all the forward cant frames on the starboard side installed. Now I'll start working on the port side at the bow. and I've still got to sand the inside of the hull frames to get them more even. Using the scraper works pretty well, but my hands can only do that for so long before I need a break. :) My new sander will be here tomorrow supposedly. Maybe that will help.
I'll get a picture once its all sanded inside and the bow cant frames are installed.

Good morning Jeff. That is good news. Cant frames for me are the most difficult part of the ships frames. Cheers Grant
