Actually, Peter, your decision not to transition back to MSW, or even do double postings, is not a bad decision. It is a lot of work, and if we can maintain the "usual contributor" contacts we gained while creating our MSW build logs over here while earning some new SoS followers, it's all good.

While not trying to speak for Jon and his decision, I cannot imagine Jon going back to MSW after all the work he is doing to recreate his FULL MSW build log now on SoS. He ain't doin' THAT twice!! ROTFROTF But again, I may be wrong!

Mustafa has maintained dual build logs from the start, so... his decision may be hard to predict, although he has lost all of his "inception-to-date" MSW history now, as well. He may just stay here solo now. Each of those gentlemen will let us know in due time. I don't recall if Frank has had one here from the start or not, as I was only watching his build on MSW.

With all that said, I have created another account "over there" and pretty much started that build log the same way I did here, where I left off a few weeks ago. As Mustafa did with his two logs, I will attempt to keep both logs active and current. As much as I was treated well there over the past number of years and five previous build logs, I do appreciate the welcoming that folks here gave us "refugees" (there's that song in my head again...) when we were invited to join them. And, besides, this gives me the opportunity to get feedback, criticism and support possibly from multiple builders in multiple locations, like getting plumbing advice from guys at Lowes and Home Depot! CautiousROTF So... let's carry on! Keep working hard on yours, Peter! I'll be around!
 
Ever since I got into this hobby, I’ve been posting the build process for all my models on both sites. Honestly, it wasn’t hard, I just copied and pasted. My whole idea was to reach more people, get more feedback, and hopefully pick up some new tricks along the way. I wasn’t doing it as a backup. It never even occurred to me that one of the sites might disappear. I can keep my Conny build log going on MSW from where I left off but I'm not sure if it would make any sense.

But I can guarantee that the build log for my next model will be on both sites too. :)

Pretty much what I was thinking with me doing both sites at this early stage in my build, Mustafa. I need LOTS of new tricks! ;)

Very glad to hear that 1) you are already thinking about a next build, and 2) we won't lose you as a contributor and mentor on our build logs!

Greg, MSW actually ended up being the third site I lost. Back in the day, I used to post my build logs on Model Ship Builder and on a Turkish forum too, but those sites disappeared for similar reasons and all my records there vanished with them. My whole aim was always to learn more, and honestly, I think I did. I’ve grown a lot through the process.

Sharing what I’ve picked up and being able to help others along the way is what really makes me happy.

There's much wisdom in your reasoning, gentlemen, and you've given me pause reconsider. I will resurrect my user ID at MSW, and post to both sites going forward - as insurance to either going down again in the future. But the winning argument for me was Mustafa's notion "to reach more people, get more feedback, and hopefully pick up some new tricks along the way". Like Gregg, "I need a lot of tricks" the better..

Another reason for me to resume a presence at MSW is to see if I can touch base with a couple of builders, who don't seem to have made the transition to SoS.
 
Went to the shop this morning to work on the fore mast royal. I was doing great. Turned off the lathe to take a measurement. Turned the lathe back on and somehow the four jaw Chuck opened up by itself. Maybe I didn't tighten it down sufficiently? I don't know. But I'm back to my usual - two steps forward, one step back.

I made a new three-piece blank this time using a slightly thicker brass dowel. I'll be back tomorrow after the epoxy dries thoroughly to do this again.
 
I have been unable to re-register as of yet, at least not with my existing user ID, which I'm resisting doing there. I sent them a note via "Contact Us" to see if there's a work around.
 
I just checked my email. Evidently my login was approved. However, I encounter the same three problems logging in there that I did yesterday. So technical difficulties continue. But thanks for chiming in.

Great to see your beautiful work restored!

I'm just going to maintain two build logs now. It's just copy/paste so not really too much extra work. The backup is now is nice. I'm going to see how much time I'll spend on each forum. I have to say that I was already spending less time on the forum before the crash, simply because it took up too much time and energy. So I'll check both forums a bit (actually just like before the crash)... and see if I can respond here and there.

Not sure why you are having so much trouble. I've renewed my account and have no issue signing in. F course, everything is starting from scratch there. Haven't got my build log reposted yet, but I'm planning to
 
Ronald, I've opted for redundance and will be posting to both sites now that I've recovered my login (problem solved, Frank) over at MSW.
I'm delighted to be able to follow your Sphinx build again.
 
I just spent a couple of hours attempting to post some of my build log pages there. I've got to say that SoS beats the pants of MSW on that score. Even uploading a 6MB jpg of a pdf page results in an abysmally small post. The text in the document is half the size of what you would get typing directly to a post, and the pages themselves are pretty small. The resultant resolution of the images on those pages is sub-par. I hate to say this Ronald, but I may not bother catching up over there. I know I could deconstruct my logs and post text and pictures separately to mimic what I did originally, but that's simply waaaaay too much work. I won't be doing that.

If I can't find a better way to get my pdf or converted to jpg (or other format?) pages over there, I think I may just skip it. Sigh..

Heading to the shipyard to remake that foremast royal. Back soon..
 
I agree that one of those mods was, to put it mildly, disagreeable. The worst part was that the communications between me and the moderators were done in emails - not posts at MSW. Why all three of them had to turn it into a public issue is beyond me. I had difficulties logging on, and I wasn't thrilled that jpeg pages of my build log were somehow reduced in resolution there after I uploaded them. That seems to have been too much for one of the trio to deal with.

I feel disrespected, but have held off firing back publicly at MSW until I cool off. That cooling off period might take a while longer, see below..

I've made SoS my first choice for my build log going forward. Having said that, I may still peruse the site to keep up with builders I follow who do not have a presence here.

Rounds two and three in the battle between me and the fore mast royal.

Round 2. Somehow I lost track and didn't leave material at the end for the live center on the lathe. I may yet attempt to resurrect this piece, see below..

Got too ambitious taking down the diameter at the outside of the shoulder. Oof.

I'm going to let this repair cure overnight, and attempt to fix things with sandpaper and files.

If that doesn't work, I'll try to resurrect the piece above. I would really rather not make this blank again. I'm going out for a stiff drink to console myself. Cheers.
