NRG 18th Century Merchantman Half-Hull - by JacquesCousteau

The half hull looks really elegant. I would bever have thought of mounting it with magnets, but it makes perfect sense. I hope to start mine after the summer. This will be invaluable.
Me too. Will be building my half-hull model of the "Shadow" 19th century racing yacht in July or August. Can't wait after seeing this beautiful half-model by Jacques Cousteau.

Thanks, all! It was definitely a rewarding experience to build. The main advice I would give is to expect fairing to take a while, and to really take your time with it.

Thanks for taking the time to repost this. I'm just about finished unpacking from a recent move and have dug my half-hull project out. Just about ready to start the planking process so your repost timing is perfect.

I found that out with my Lobster Smack. I thought I had done a great job fairing the hull, but then realized I was ony about halfway through. I took off far more wood than I ever thought I would. Then did more when I started planking. Lesson learned.

Fantastic job on the mounting. That really would look very nice in an office.

How much time would you saw this took?
Thanks! It took me from January to October or so of 2025, but in reality, I took a lot of breaks. I couldn't sand the plywood much indoors because it set off my allergies, but Chicago in the winter/spring was not very cooperative in allowing me to sand on the balcony. I also was working on some other models the whole time, and had to sell off everything I couldn't fit in a suitcase when I moved to Mexico late that summer. So, if you focus just on this build, I think it would be doable in a few months.
