After almost two and a half months of looking but not touching, I finally received my gift.
I used that time to buy the necessary tools. The only things I already owned were a cordless drill and a Ferm multi-tool.
I also used that time to figure out how I want the ST to look in the end:
  • I’m going to use the Artesanía Latina (AL) color scheme, and I’ve already bought the AL paint set.
  • I also prefer the stern of the AL version, especially the rudder section. I’m going to try and have the stern ornaments 3D-printed.
  • Furthermore, I’m still undecided about the figurehead. If I want to stay as close to the AL version as possible, it will be the "Warrior" figurehead. But there is plenty of time to decide.
  • For the deck planks, I will only mark the caulking seams with a pencil (2B or 4B), so no "nails". And I will use the 4-plank system (butt shift) pattern.
If anyone has any suggestions or advice, please don't hesitate to share!

Placed all the bulkheads today.
Already made my first mistake; I had already mounted the last bulkhead, which meant I couldn't place the support beams anymore.
I thought I could manage it all without the manual (RTFM!) After some painstaking demolition work with a Stanley knife, the beams could be placed. Finally, remounted the last bulkhead.

Worked on the third upper gun deck.
I chose a 5-butt shift, using 75mm planks.
The first job was drawing the pattern out on the upper gun deck. After that, cutting the planks to size, gluing, and sanding.
I haven't glued the deck in place yet, just to make absolutely sure everything lines up correctly later on.
The bulkheads have not been fixed to the support beams either.
I also haven't decided on the color of the decks yet. In any case, there won't be any treenails, but I might add the caulking lines

Hi Paul, it is....
So I would appreciate your remarks and advise.
Greetz, Peter
I'm sure you carefully studied the other build reports on this ship. That's probably just as important (if not more important) than the Occre instructions. I think Occre often does videos - do they have any for this ship?

My first build was also a large ship (the Vasa) so I can say with a certain amount of authority: this is going to epic if you can overcome your inevitable mistakes.

I had two and a half months to gather as much information as possible.
I found and watched many videos, including complete build videos of the ST by both Occre and Artesania Latina, as well as info on specific parts of the building process, etc.
I will take a look at your 208-page build log ... I'm sure there's something in there I can use.

I built this kit , also have a build log here.
So youbcan take your notes on the different problems on that kit , pay very close attention to the sten gallery.
It's needs to be modified or e your officers will need to lay on their stomach to watch the view out of the windows ROTF

Good luck with the build

Thank you Guy,
Of course I have seen your and other build logs, and I have already gathered many ideas and learned how to approach certain tasks. In your build log, I also found modifications that I am definitely going to copy! The stern has my full attention and I plan to modify it; my officers are real softies!
In my post 'Hi, Peter from the Netherlands' I already mentioned some ideas, including for the stern gallery.
I hope to get tips from you if there might be a better way to do something.

Hi Peter, that is a beautiful model and epic first build! Wonderful! I say your premature mounting of the last bulkhead means you'll be just fine - get that first mistake out of the way early on! (Don't ask me how I know this ROTF)

Have fun!

This is a serious project! I wish you a lot of fun building it!
Thank you Ronald!
The hours I’ve already spent on it have brought me a lot of joy.
Your Sphinx is a textbook example of how to plank the hull perfectly! Just like many others, I am highly impressed.
It reassures me to know it took you four months, so if it takes me a very long time, I know that's simply what's required for a great result.

Hi Bill,
I’m under no illusions that this will be my first and last mistake (I’m actually going to keep count of them! ;)
Luckily, looking around the forum, I can see that I’m not the only one—and neither are you!
