Indeed it does NOT make sense - I'm becoming resistant to say but, I discuss that in the early pages of my log for this kit. I tossed the instruction
booklet - almost useless..

I would like you opinion on whether to run the bowsprit parallel to the keel as per the book or centeralised, I have drilled a pilot hole but nothing is final

Plenty of clearance for the figurehead 6.5cm and lines up nicely with the keel

Have to admit the building slip is one of my better purchases
